CODING DEVICE, CODING METHOD, DECODING DEVICE, DECODING METHOD, AND PROGRAM

To reduce data amount while ensuring tactile reproducibility of a two-dimensional tactile signal, and improve the efficiency of a system related to tactile reproduction.

Coding is performed to compress information amount by orthogonally transforming a two-dimensional tactile signal based on a time signal. By orthogonally transforming a two-dimensional tactile signal based on a time signal, it is possible to compress information amount by removing frequency components that are difficult for humans to perceive, as in the case of an image signal, for example. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce data amount while ensuring tactile reproducibility of a two-dimensional tactile signal, and improve the efficiency of a system related to tactile reproduction.

Compressing and Decompressing Image Data Using Compacted Region Transforms
20230262269 · 2023-08-17 ·

A method of compressing image data comprising a set of image values each representing a position in image-value space so as to define an occupied region thereof. The method comprises selectively applying a series of compression transforms to subsets of the image data items to generate a transformed set of image data items occupying a compacted region of value space. The method further comprises identifying a set of one or more reference data items that quantizes the compacted region in value space. For each image data item in the set of image data items, a sequence of decompression transforms from a fixed set of decompression transforms is identified that generates an approximation of that image data item when applied to a selected one of the one or more reference data items. Each image data item in the set of image data items is encoded as a representation of the identified sequence of decompression transforms for that image data item. The encoded image data items, set of reference data items and the fixed set of decompression transforms are stored as compressed image data.

BWT circuit arrangement and method

Disclosed approaches for performing a Burrows-Wheeler transform (BWT) of a sequence of data elements, S, include determining sets of less-than values and sets of equal-to values for the data elements. Index values are determined for the data elements based on the sets of less-than values. Each index value indicates a count of data elements of S that a data element is lexicographically greater than. Rank values are determined for the data elements of S based on the sets of less-than values and the sets of equal-to values. Each rank value indicates for the data element an order of the data element in the BWT relative to other ones of the data elements of equal value. Positions in the BWT of S for the data elements are selected based on the index values and rank values, and the data elements are output in the order indicated by the respective positions in the BWT.

Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) systems use light pulses to create an image or point cloud of an environment. This LiDAR system and method having data encoding and compression improves the efficiency and communication reliability of point cloud data using data encoding and compression. After receiving return light pulse reflected by an object in the FOV, the system converts the detected optical signal data into raw data for the purpose of generating trigger data, encoder data, and time synchronization data from the raw data. The system further configures output data in a compressed format using the least amount of bits to carry the same amount of information defining point cloud data describing an external environment and the computational load is reduced. The compressed format comprises a data set for one baseline channel and differential channel data for one or more channels based upon the baseline channel.
