A method includes receiving an input data stream at a processor, and for each byte sequence from a plurality of byte sequences of the input data stream, a hash is generated and compared to a hash table to determine whether a match exists. If a match exists, that byte sequence is incrementally expanded to include one or more additional adjacent bytes from the input data stream, to produce multiple expanded byte sequences. Each of the expanded byte sequences is compared to the hash table to identify a maximum-length matched byte sequence from a set that includes the byte sequence and the plurality of expanded byte sequences. A representation of the maximum-length matched byte sequence is stored in the memory. If a match does not exist, a representation of that byte sequence is stored as a byte sequence literal in the memory.

COMPRESSION DICTIONARY SNAPSHOT SYSTEM AND METHOD

A system configured to generate a set of compression dictionary snapshots. The system can determine a subset of a set of compression dictionary definitions, the subset having a first subset comprising one or more definitions that have changed since a time of a previous snapshot and a second subset having one or more definitions associated with a predetermined portion of the dictionary. The system can further generate and store snapshots based at least in part on the determined subset of one or more definitions and determine a plurality of active snapshots from the set of snapshots such that the set of one or more definitions is included in the plurality of active snapshots.

Described embodiments provide systems and methods for stream-based compression. An encoder of a first device receives an input stream of bytes including a first byte preceded by one or more second bytes. The encoder may determine to identify a prefix code for the first byte. The encoder may select a prefix code table using the one or more second bytes. The encoder may identify, from the selected prefix code table, the prefix code of the first byte. The encoder may generate an output stream of bytes by replacing the first byte in the input stream with the prefix code of the first byte. The encoder may transmit the output stream from the encoder of the first device to a decoder of a second device. The output stream may have a fewer number of bits than the input stream.

According to one embodiment, a compression device includes a first storage unit, a second storage unit, a calculation unit, and a comparison unit. The first storage unit stores addresses associated with hash values, respectively. The second storage unit includes storage areas specified by the addresses, respectively. The calculation unit determines a hash function to be used for first data in accordance with at least a part of the first data, and calculates a hash value using the hash function and at least a part of second data included in the first data. The comparison unit acquires third data from a storage area in the second storage unit specified by a first address, and compares the second data with the third data. The first address is stored in the first storage unit and is associated with the hash value.
