PROCESS FOR PROVIDING PROTECTIVE THERAPY FOR BIOLOGICAL TISSUES OR FLUIDS
A process that provides protective therapy for biological tissues or fluids includes applying a pulsed energy source to a target tissue or a target fluid having a chronic progressive disease or a risk of having a chronic progressive disease to therapeutically or prophylactically treat the target tissue or target fluid. The pulsed energy source has energy parameters selected so as to raise the target tissue or bodily target fluid temperature up to a predetermined temperature for a short period of time to achieve a therapeutic or prophylactic effect, while the average temperature rise of the target tissue or target fluid over a longer period of time is maintained at or below a predetermined level so as not to permanently damage the target tissue or target fluid.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR UNATTENDED TREATMENT OF A PATIENT
An unattended approach can increase the reproducibility and safety of the treatment as the chance of over/under treating of a certain area is significantly decreased. On the other hand, unattended treatment of uneven or rugged areas can be challenging in terms of maintaining proper distance or contact with the treated tissue, mostly on areas which tend to differ from patient to patient (e.g. facial area). Delivering energy via a system of active elements embedded in a flexible pad adhesively attached to the skin offers a possible solution. The unattended approach may include delivering of multiple energies to enhance a visual appearance.
Laser device for intracranial illumination via oral or nasal foramina access
A system and method of illuminating tissue, particularly within the cranial cavity, through the mouth or nose. The system includes a light source and a power source for powering the light source. Optics are included for directing light from the light source towards the cranial cavity when the apparatus is inserted into a cavity of the head. Light from the light source and output from the optic provides cellular interaction treatment toward a specified area of the head region. Providing illumination where there are already holes in the skull results in more efficient coupling of light to the cells.
Abnormal electrical conduction blocking apparatus using photodynamic therapy (PDT)
There are provided an apparatus and a method for blocking abnormal conduction in the cardiac muscle using a photodynamic therapy or for treating arrhythmia. There is provided a catheter ablation apparatus for the treatment of arrhythmia using a photodynamic therapy, comprising a catheter leading a photoradiation unit to an abnormal electrical conduction site or a hyperexcitability occurring site in the cardiac muscle of a test subject in which a photosensitizer is present by administering the photosensitizer beforehand and which causes arrhythmia, means for generating a light ray with which the abnormal electrical conduction site or the hyperexcitability occurring site is irradiated, and means for transmitting the light ray to the abnormal electrical conduction site or the hyperexcitability occurring site, wherein the photosensitizer used is a water-soluble chlorine-based photosensitizer and the light ray used is a light ray having an excitation wavelength equal to that of the photosensitizer.
Multi-electrode apposition judgment using pressure elements
Apparatus and methods for determining positioning of a energy delivery element include deploying a energy delivery element at a treatment site proximal to a vessel wall; using a multi-region pressure sensing apparatus to sense pressures applied in a plurality of directions about the energy delivery element; and determining an orientation of the energy delivery element based on the pressures measured in the plurality of directions about the energy delivery element.
Multichannel optogenetic stimulation and inhibition
Optogenetic signal processing is described for an auditory prosthesis with an intracochlear array of optical stimulation sources implanted in a patient having auditory neurons genetically modified with light sensitive ion channels. Stimulation timing signals are generated for the corresponding auditory neurons for each band pass signal based on characteristic temporal fine structure features of the band pass signals. The stimulation timing signals include: i. one or more channel opening signals adapted to open the ion channels of the corresponding auditory neurons, and ii. one or more channel closing signals adapted to close the ion channels of the corresponding ion channels. Optical stimulation signals are then produced for the optical stimulation sources based on the stimulation timing signals.
NASAL SPRAY APPARATUS
A cap for a nasal spray apparatus, the cap including a spray dispensing mechanism and further including a base sealingly mountable on a container of liquid substance to be dispensed; an intermediate section arranged for reciprocating movement relative to the base the intermediate section including the spray dispensing mechanism and having a spray dispensing passage; a cover-section having a depressible flexible portion, coupled to the intermediate-section; and a Light Emitting Diode (LED) connected to a power source through an electric circuit, the LED mounted adjacent the spray dispensing passage so as to be inserted into a nostril therewith; wherein the depressible flexible portion is arranged and configured to cause closure of the electric circuit for activating the LED and to actuate the spray dispensing mechanism, to provide both illumination and spray of liquid substance into the nostril.
SYSTEM AND PROCESS FOR TREATMENT OF MYOPIA
A process for preventing or treating myopia includes applying a pulsed energy, such as a pulsed laser beam, to tissue of an eye having myopia or a risk of having myopia. The source of pulsed energy has energy parameters including wavelength or frequency, duty cycle and pulse train duration, which are selected so as to raise an eye tissue temperature up to eleven degrees Celsius to achieve therapeutic or prophylactic effect, such as stimulating heat shock protein activation in the eye tissue. The average temperature rise of the eye tissue over several minutes is maintained at or below a predetermined level so as not to permanently damage the eye tissue.
STOMATITIS TREATMENT DEVICE
A stomatitis treatment device which is equipped with a light emitting means inside a housing to enable inflammations on the roof of the mouth and the upper side of the tongue to be treated, and to which a coupling module is attached to allow inflammations occurring on the lower side of the bottom of the mouth, etc. to be treated, is proposed. The stomatitis treatment device allows the roof of the mouth, the tongue, and the bottom of the mouth to be simultaneously irradiated with light for treatment by attaching and detaching the coupling module to and from the housing having the cell regeneration lamp therein, and thus can be used by patients having severe stomatitis with multiple lesions.
In Situ Promotion of Cellular Structure By Selective Application of Electro-Magnetic Waves
A housing, a UVC emitting light source combined to the housing for emitting UVC light outside the housing onto the area of interest, and a controller combined to the UVC light source for controlling the intensity of the UVC light emitted onto the area of interest.
