Also, a phototherapy system having a light guide interfacing with a light source at a connection point, an ambient light sensor, a connector light sensor for detecting (at the connection point) ambient light received by a light emitting pad that is directed into the light guide, and circuitry for determining whether the light guide is correctly connected to the light source based on a difference between the output of the ambient light source and the connector light sensor. Further, a phototherapy system including a light emitting pad having an identification tag and circuitry that modulates a light source based on the identification tag. Additionally, a phototherapy system including a casing encapsulating multiple light emitters and a light emitting pad.

LED on flexible printed circuit with thermal protection for phototherapy treatment

A phototherapy device includes a clothing item. Illuminators are secured to the clothing item and arranged to illuminate at least a portion of a patient wearing the clothing item. The illuminators include light emitting diodes (LEDs) mounted on at least one flexible printed circuit board (PCB). A temperature sensor is secured to the clothing item and positioned to measure a temperature proximate to the patient wearing the clothing item. A control circuit is connected to receive the temperature from the temperature sensor and operative to turn off the illuminators responsive to the temperature exceeding a maximum permitted temperature.

The current invention is disclosing a sensor to monitor changes of bilirubin blood levels. The sensor of the current invention includes a bleaching light source(s) and a sensor light source(s) and a detector(s). The invention of the disclosed sensor lies in the bleaching light source in addition to a light source that is used for optical measurement. The bleaching light source is bleaching and photocatalytic, converting bilirubin into water soluble isomers/derivatives that are faster removed from the skin and secreted by the body. As a result, deposited bilirubin is removed in the light path of the sensor light source, and the non-invasive method of the present invention is measuring the bilirubin blood level without interference from deposited bilirubin in tissue, e.g. skin. The non-invasive optical sensor and method may be applied in monitoring the progression of jaundice and to manage jaundice phototherapy.
