Test instruments and methods for emulating optical network terminal (ONT) devices and testing optical networks based on the emulation
Disclosed are apparatuses and testing methods for emulating an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) device for communicating or otherwise working with an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) device that was configured to operate with the ONT device. Such emulation may include configuring various settings of the apparatus so that the apparatus may appear to the OLT to be the ONT device. For example, the emulation may include accessing and using authentication/authorization related settings and network configuration settings of the ONT, thus permitting the apparatus to connect to a Passive Optical Network and test services and the quality of service experience without having to reconfigure the OLT.

Physical layer security in network sensing architecture
Aspects of the present disclosure describe physical layer security in optical telecommunications networks wherein a filtering-based physical security is provided by a wavelength tunable distributed fiber optical sensing (DFOS) system operating simultaneously on the telecommunications network.
CONTROL OF OPTICAL-MODULATION AMPLITUDE FOR BURST-MODE TRANSMISSION
Various embodiments of the disclosed PON system enable approximate leveling of the optical-modulation amplitudes in a sequence of optical bursts received by a system's OLT from a plurality of ONUs. Some embodiments additionally enable approximate leveling of the average optical power, received at the OLT from different ONUs, in such a sequence. Some embodiments may rely on control messaging between the OLT and ONUs to perform one or both types of leveling. The disclosed leveling may advantageously provide an effective tool for optimizing upstream transmission for high-speed TDM-PONs.
WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEXING COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEXING COMMUNICATION METHOD
A wavelength multiplexing communication system includes a master station apparatus and a plurality of slave station apparatuses. The master station apparatus includes a wavelength multiplexing communication unit that performs wavelength multiplexing communication with the plurality of slave station apparatuses by wavelengths the number of which is equal to or less than the number of the plurality of slave station apparatuses using an optical signal of a wavelength in a first wavelength group and an optical signal of a wavelength in a second wavelength group. The slave station apparatuses include an optical communication unit that performs communication of the main signal with the master station apparatus by an optical signal of a wavelength in the first wavelength group, which is different from a wavelength in the first wavelength group used by another slave station when the main signal communication is performed in the host slave station apparatus, and performs communication of a signal other than the main signal with the master station apparatus by an optical signal of a wavelength in the second wavelength group, which is a wavelength same as a wavelength used by another slave station apparatus when the main signal communication is not performed in the host slave station apparatus.

Optical communication system and optical communication method
An optical communication system having an optical transmission line, where a first section of the optical transmission line is connected to a first optical communication device; and a second section of the optical transmission line is connected to a second optical communication device. The optical communication system further includes: a Raman light source; an incident device connected to same end of the second section of the optical transmission line as the second optical communication device; and a separating device interconnecting the first section of the optical transmission line to the second section of the optical transmission line. The incident device causes excitation light output from the Raman light source to be incident to the second section of the optical transmission line and performs distributed Raman amplification on the optical signal; and the separating device separates the excitation light that is caused to be incident by the incident device.
