Wavelength cross connect device, branch ratio variable method, and program
A large number of degrees for relays of optical signals transmitted via optical paths in the degrees is secured. A wavelength cross-connect device 20A performs a relay by splitting optical signals from respective degrees indicated by reference numerals 40l, 40h, 40m, 40q, each of the degrees being provided by optical fibers, via respective optical couplers and outputting the split optical signals to output sides of the plurality of degrees via respective WSSs 23a to 23d. As the optical couplers, variable couplers 27a to 27d whose respective splitting ratios, each of which is a ratio of optical signal power losses in splitting an optical signal, are variable are used. The wavelength cross-connect device 20A includes a control unit 26 that performs control to change the splitting ratios in such a manner as to eliminate an imbalance among OSNR margins of the output sides of the degrees in which a plurality of optical paths transmitting the split optical signals extend. The control unit 26 calculates the margins for the respective optical paths transmitting the split optical signals via the variable couplers 27a to 27d, for each of the output sides of the degrees. The control unit 26 performs control to, based on respective smallest margins of the degrees in all the margins, change the splitting ratios of the variable couplers 27a to 27d in such a manner as to eliminate an imbalance between the margins of the degrees.
Excitation light source device and optical transmission system
An excitation light source device includes: an excitation light source to generate the Raman excitation light; a light source controller to control an intensity of the Raman excitation light; an amplified spontaneous emission noise measurer to measure an intensity of amplified spontaneous emission noise caused by the Raman excitation light; and a transmission line abnormality analyzer to detect abnormality in the transmission line on a basis of a control state of the light source controller and a measurement result of the amplified spontaneous emission noise measurer. In a state where the abnormality is not detected, the light source controller controls the intensity of the Raman excitation light to gradually increase to a set value. In a state where the abnormality is detected, the light source controller controls the excitation light source to stop or reduce generation of the Raman excitation light.

A controller for a front-exciting Raman-amplifier that amplifies an optical signal transmitted from one end of an optical fiber to other end by inputting an excitation light to the one end, the controller includes a memory, and a processor coupled to the memory and configured to acquire communication-related information regarding communication of the optical signal in the optical fiber, when the acquired communication-related information does not indicate the communication of the optical signal, set a Raman gain of the front-exciting Raman amplifier based on a first light intensity of an amplified spontaneous scattered light of the excitation light, and when the acquired communication-related information indicates the communication of the optical signal, set the Raman gain based on a second light intensity of the optical signal output from the optical fiber.
OPTICAL AMPLIFIER FOR SUBSEA CONTROL SYSTEMS
An optical amplifier comprising: an optical coupler configured to receive a communication signal and couple said communication signal to an optical connector of a doped optical fibre; and at least one electrical to optical data converter connected to the optical coupler to provide pump radiation thereto.
Optical amplifier module
An optical amplifier module is configured as a multi-stage free-space optics arrangement, including at least an input stage and an output stage. The actual amplification is provided by a separate fiber-based component coupled to the module. A propagating optical input signal and pump light are provided to the input stage, with the amplified optical signal exiting the output stage. The necessary operations performed on the signal within each stage are provided by directing free-space beams through discrete optical components. The utilization of discrete optical components and free-space beams significantly reduces the number of fiber splices and other types of coupling connections required in prior art amplifier modules, allowing for an automated process to create a “pluggable” optical amplifier module of small form factor proportions.
