METHODS AND APPARATUS TO ESTIMATE DEDUPLICATED TOTAL AUDIENCES IN CROSS-PLATFORM MEDIA CAMPAIGNS

Disclosed examples determine a duplicated audience size representative of panelists exposed to television media and digital media; determine a panel duplication reach based on the duplicated audience size and a panelist population; determine a did-not-view reach based on a television audience size, a digital audience size, the duplicated audience size, and the panelist population; obtain an overlap multiplier as a ratio of (1) a product of the panel duplication reach and the did-not-view reach and (2) a product of a television panel reach and a digital panel reach; determine a duplication factor for a media item based on a television audience reach, a digital audience reach, and the overlap multiplier; and determine a total audience for the media item based on the television audience reach, the digital audience reach, and the duplication factor.

MEDIA SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND CONTROL

A method of processing media output events, each having a corresponding duration, from a plurality of media content receivers within a media distribution system, comprises: a. dividing the output events into a plurality of segments, such that output events having similar properties are placed into the same one of said segments; b. within each said segment, identifying a long duration threshold based on the distribution of the durations of the output events within that segment; c. and applying the long duration thresholds of each said segment for control and/or analysis of the media distribution system.

METHODS AND APPARATUS TO PERFORM AUDIO SENSOR SELECTION IN AN AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT DEVICE

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to perform audio sensor selection in an audience metering device are disclosed. An example method includes identifying a plurality of audio sensor configurations supported by the audience metering device. A first quality metric of a first media identifier determined from first audio received via a first one of the audio sensor configurations is computed. A second quality metric of a second media identifier determined from second audio received via a second one of the audio sensor configurations is computed. One of the first one of the audio sensor configurations or the second one of the audio sensor configurations is selected based on a comparison of the first quality metric and the second quality metric. Media monitoring is performed at the audience metering device using the selected one of the audio sensor configurations.

METHODS AND APPARATUS TO DETERMINE HEADPHONE ADJUSTMENT FOR PORTABLE PEOPLE METER LISTENING TO ENCODED AUDIO STREAMS

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to determine headphone adjustment for portable people meter listening to encoded audio streams are disclosed. An example system disclosed herein includes meter data analyzer circuitry to determine an audience estimate for streaming media based on media data measured by a media meter, the media meter to measure the streaming media based on an identification of the streaming media in ambient audio collected by a microphone of the media meter, and data analyzer circuitry to calculate at least one headphone adjustment factor based on a first determined proportion of an audience that listens to streaming media via headphones and a second determined proportion of the audience that listens to streaming media without headphones.

METHODS, SYSTEMS, APPARATUS, AND ARTICLES OF MANUFACTURE TO DETERMINE PERFORMANCE OF AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT METERS

Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to determine performance of audience measurement meters. An example apparatus disclosed herein is to cause an audio output device of a meter to emit an audio signal into an environment, the audio signal based on a test pattern including a first plurality of watermarks and cause an audio input device of the meter to collect data from the environment during emission of the audio signal. Additionally, the example apparatus is to determine whether a second plurality of watermarks decoded from the data match the first plurality of watermarks and based on a difference between the first plurality of watermarks and the second plurality of watermarks indicative of a fault, cause an alert to be transmitted to a device associated with an audience measurement company that issued the meter.

Methods and systems for personalizing user experience based on nostalgia metrics

A server system accesses a profile of a user of the media-providing service. The profile indicates a demographic group of the user. For each media item of a plurality of media items, the server system determines a year associated with the media item. The server system selects content for the user based at least in part on an affinity of members of the demographic group, as compared to members of other demographic groups, for content from the year associated with the media item. The server system provides the selected content to a client device associated with the user.

Disclosed example audience measurement apparatus determine a first audience metric based on set-top box return path tuning data obtained from set-top boxes located in a first geographic area; determine a second audience metric from a portion of audience measurement data corresponding to a second geographic area, the portion of the audience measurement data associated with monitored sites in the second geographic area having second set-top box characteristics that correspond with first set-top box characteristics of the set-top boxes located in the first geographic area; determine ratios of (i) respective first audience metrics determined for respective demographic stratifications to (ii) corresponding second audience metrics determined for the respective demographic stratifications; and combine the ratios after multiplication with third audience metrics determined, for the respective demographic stratifications, from the audience measurement data to determine an audience exposure metric that estimates exposure to media in the first geographic area.

Technique for usage forecasting in a switched digital video system

A plurality of digital video recorders are polled to extract data indicative of recordings scheduled thereon. The polling is carried out over a video content network by a component at a node in the video content network that is remote from the plurality of digital video recorders. At least a portion of the data is used to obtain a prediction of future switched digital video channel usage for the video content network. At least one network management activity is carried out on the video content network in response to the prediction of future switched digital video channel usage for the video content network.
