Display device on/off detection methods and apparatus
Display device ON/OFF detection methods and apparatus are disclosed. Example display activity detectors disclosed herein are to extract regions from respective ones of captured video frames, the regions corresponding to a depiction of a display of a monitored media device Disclosed example display activity detectors are also to compute a distance metric that is to represent an amount a first one of the regions of a first one of the captured video frames differs from a corresponding second one of the regions of a second one of the captured video frames. Disclosed example display activity detectors are further to compare the distance metric to a threshold to determine whether the monitored media device is ON or OFF.

Methods and apparatus to extend a timestamp range supported by a watermark
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to extend a time range supported by a watermark are disclosed. Example watermark encoding apparatus disclosed herein determine which one of a plurality of timestamp cycles is to be represented by a timestamp of a watermark, the timestamp including a set of timestamp symbols, a first subset of data symbols and a second subset of data symbols. Disclosed example apparatus also modify the first subset of data symbols of the watermark based on a further timestamp symbol not included in the set of timestamp symbols of the timestamp, but not modify the second subset of data symbols based on the further timestamp symbol, the further timestamp symbol to identify the one of the plurality of timestamp cycles to be represented by the timestamp of the watermark. Disclosed example apparatus further embed the watermark in a piece of media.
DISPLAY CONTROLLING METHOD, TIME CONTROLLING METHOD, TIME MANAGING METHOD, AND BROADCAST RECEIVING APPARATUS
A display controlling method for a broadcast receiving apparatus allowed to receive IP simultaneous broadcasting of a 4K broadcasting service via a communication transmission line, in which simultaneous broadcasting of the 4K broadcasting service and a 2K broadcasting service is executed by a broadcasting wave, is configured to: receive and demodulate the 4K broadcasting service, and display a broadcasting program of the 4K broadcasting service; and select and execute one display switching process of first and second display switching processes in accordance with priority order in a case where a defect occurs in reception, demodulation, or display of the 4K broadcasting service, the 2K broadcasting service being received and demodulated to display a broadcasting program of the 2K broadcasting service in the first display switching process, the IP simultaneous broadcasting being received and demodulated to display a program of the IP simultaneous broadcasting in the second display switching process.

Content recommendation techniques with reduced habit bias effects
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying content consumption data associated with media content consumption at a customer device, and generating a content selection recommendation for the customer device. Some embodiments can include determining a habit-based content selection vector for the customer device. Various embodiments can include determining the habit-based content selection vector based on a habit profile for the customer device. Some embodiments can include adjusting a content selection vector for the customer device based on the habit-based content selection vector for the customer device. Various embodiments can include generating the content selection recommendation for the customer device based on the adjusted content selection vector. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Signal processing device and image display apparatus including the same
The present invention relates to a signal processing apparatus and an image display apparatus including the same. The signal processing apparatus for processing a baseband signal demodulated from an RF signal, includes: a synchronizer; a channel estimator; an equalizer; an error corrector to perform error correction based on a signal output from the equalizer; and a mean square error calculator to calculate a mean square error based on a difference between an input signal from the equalizer and a reference signal, wherein when the RF signal includes a co-channel interference signal, the error corrector performs error correction by using a mean square error in a time domain or mean square errors in a time domain and a spatial domain. Accordingly, a baseband signal, from which a defect is removed, may be obtained in response to various communication channels or broadcast channels.

Methods and apparatus to detect a blank frame in a digital video broadcast signal
Methods and apparatus to detect blank images in a digital video broadcast signal are disclosed. An example method of detecting a blank image includes receiving a compressed digital image including a plurality of DC values, analyzing a total number of bits in the digital image to determine if the digital image has a data size small enough to be a blank frame candidate, if the data size is small enough for the digital image to be a blank frame candidate, analyzing multiple areas of the digital image to determine if the multiple areas exhibit substantially a same complexity, if the multiple areas exhibit substantially the same complexity, determining a number of DC values in the plurality of DC values that meet a criterion, comparing the determined number of DC values meeting the criterion to a threshold, and identifying the received digital image as a blank image if the determined number of DC values exceeds the threshold.
