Method and system for detecting and responding to changing of media channel
11432037 · 2022-08-30 · ·

A computing system receives from a media presentation device a query fingerprint stream representing media content being presented by the media presentation device, where the query fingerprint stream has been determined to represent a first channel. The computing system then detects that a threshold mismatch exists between the received query fingerprint stream and a reference fingerprint stream representing the first channel, thus indicating a likelihood that the media presentation device has transitioned from presenting the first channel to presenting a second channel. Responsive to detecting the threshold mismatch, the system thus discontinues channel-specific action with respect to the first channel. For instance, the system could discontinue superimposing of first-channel-specific content on the presented media content and perhaps start superimposing of second-channel-specific content instead.

Method and apparatus for managing advertising

A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining identified impressions that are detected from consumption data collected from a group of media processors where the identified impressions represent viewing of selected content and where the consumption data indicates channel tuning events at the group of media processors including changing of channels, applying a ridge regression analysis to the identified impressions to determine a predicted number of target impressions per advertisement slot, and generating a media plan based on a ratio of an advertisement slot cost to the predicted number of target impressions per advertisement slot. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Methods and apparatus to classify all other tuning data

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to classify all other tuning (AOT) data are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a media interface to access first channel information corresponding to a first record at a first time. An operating state identifier is to store the channel information corresponding to the first record at the first time in a data store. An AOT identifier is to determine the first record is classified as AOT data. A comparator is to compare the channel information at the first time with second channel information at a second time, wherein the second channel information at the second time corresponds to a previously classified media record. A record updater is to, when the first channel information matches the second channel information, update the first record with a media identification from the matched classification classified media record and store the updated first record in the data store.

Optimizing timing of display of a mid-roll video advertisement based on viewer retention data
09736503 · 2017-08-15 · ·

The timing for displaying a mid-roll advertisement during a video is determined based on analysis of viewer retention data for the video. In an aspect, a system is provided that includes a reception component configured to receive viewer retention information for a video, the viewer retention information indentifying amounts of viewers that have watched respective frames of the video, an identification component configured to identify high interest segments of the video based on analysis of the viewer retention information, wherein the high interest segments are associated with relatively higher viewer interest over other segments of the video. The system further includes an advertisement component configured to select a point to insert a mid-roll advertisement during playback of the video at or near at least one of the high interest segments.

Automatic content recognition with local matching

A media device and method execute computer instructions to: generate a first query fingerprint of media content; send the first query fingerprint to a server; and receive, from the server, an identification of a first channel being watched in response to the server finding a match to the first query fingerprint. The media device iteratively receives, from the server, a plurality of fingerprints generated from the media content in locations ahead of where the media content is being received; store the plurality of fingerprints in a local database of a computer-readable storage medium; and compare a second query fingerprint of the media content with the plurality of fingerprints to determine whether the media device remains set on the first channel, without continuously pinging the server. When the media device locally detects a non-match with the second query fingerprint, the process starts over with it finding a match at the server.

Set top box

The present application relates to set top boxes and relates to the inclusion of a diagnostic function in the set top box which may be activated remotely or respond internally to the detection of faults or changes in status. The diagnostic function may emulate key presses from an infrared remote control to perform a test.

Streaming with optional broadcast delivery of data segments

For streaming data in a mobile communication network, a descriptive file (100) of a stream (200) is provided. The descriptive file (100) comprises a list (110) of delivery source identifiers, e.g. URIs, for unicast delivery of data segments (210) of the stream. A broadcast indicator (120) is selectively added to the descriptive file (100) so as to indicate whether broadcast delivery of the data segments (210) is available. Adding the broadcast indicator (120) and initiating the broadcast delivery may be accomplished on the basis of a popularity of the stream.

Media network environment

A network media environment includes a first hub network and a second hub network. The first hub network encompasses a first local environment based on a first server which is coupled to a first client. The second hub network encompasses a second local environment based on a second server which is also coupled to the first client. The first local environment and the second local environment overlap. The second local environment is movable with a movement of the second server.

System and method for monitoring whole home digital video recorder usage for internet protocol television

The subject disclosure describes identifying a table associated with a set-top box that receives services from equipment of a video head-end office, where the table indicates that the set-top box has requested a video stream that would exceed a first number of video streams allocated to the set-top box and would exceed a bandwidth configuration, detecting a conflicting event according to information in the table, reconfiguring the bandwidth configuration allocated to the plurality of set-top boxes to resolve the conflicting event, determining a second number of video streams requested by the plurality of set-top boxes when the conflicting event occurred, determining a third number of video streams to resolve the conflicting event based on a difference between the first number of video streams and the second number of video streams, and instructing the equipment to provide the third number of video streams to the set-top box. Other embodiments are disclosed.
