A method and system for planning and running video-on-demand (VOD) advertising includes a planner for planning advertising campaigns and an ad selector for running selected advertisements from selected ones of the campaigns. The campaigns are associated with household demographic classifications, video content category categories, household geographic locations, and/or video viewing times. In response to a viewer requesting a video, the selector selects the campaigns corresponding to the demographic classification associated with the viewer, the content category of the requested video, the geographic location associated with the viewer, and/or the viewing time at which the requested video is viewed. The demographic classification is determined by using an identifier of the viewer's set-top-box. The selector may select the campaigns corresponding to the content categories of the requested video. The content categories are determined by using an identifier associated with the requested video.

An example apparatus includes a thermal image detector to determine a heat blob count based on a frame of thermal image data captured in the media environment, an audience image detector to identify a face of an audience member based on a frame of audience image data captured in the media environment, the frame of audience image data corresponding to a field of view associated with at least one heat blob included in the heat blob count, and a people meter controller to cause a people meter, which is to emit a prompt for audience identification information, not to emit the prompt for at least a first time period after the audience member is identified.
Determining metrics characterizing numbers of unique members of media audiences
Example methods disclosed herein include accessing a query requesting a metric associated with a number of unique members of an audience of media over an aggregate monitoring interval corresponding to a plurality of component monitoring intervals. Disclosed example methods also include determining respective aggregate interval probability distributions modeling likelihoods of respective monitored individuals being exposed to the media during the aggregate monitoring interval, a first one of the aggregate interval probability distributions for a first one of the monitored individuals being determined by combining parameters of respective component interval probability distributions modeling likelihoods of the first one of the monitored individuals being exposed to the media during respective ones of the component monitoring intervals. Disclosed example methods further include evaluating an audience-level probability distribution determined from the aggregate interval probability distributions to determine the metric to transmit to the computing device in response to the query.
