A system and method for the reception of content items, including the ability to handle a plurality of service announcement formats and the ability to select, for a plurality of network access points, the best access point for receiving items.

A method and a system for sending alert messages are provided. The method includes defining an alert area associated with an alert event. The method further identifies one or more cells at least partially overlapping with the alert area. The method furthermore performs a passive positioning to determine a first set of communication devices associated with the one or more cells. Thereafter, the method performs an active positioning on the first set of communication devices to identify a second set of communication devices present within the alert area. The method then sends an alert message to the second set of communication devices.

Tools and techniques are provided for identifying, collecting, and processing music-related content within a radio broadcast environment. In one embodiment, a method is provided for processing music-related broadcast radio data. The method includes receiving a plurality of broadcast radio station signals; identifying each radio station signal as an analog signal or a digitally broadcast signal in response to the identified radio station signals; obtaining a broadcast sample from at least one of the radio stations; identifying at least one music-related information element missing from the broadcast sample; obtaining missing music-related information elements; updating a computer server with the obtained music-related information elements; and generating and communicating a music guide including the updated information to various user devices.

A method for populating a plurality of radio stations on a user device, the method includes receiving the plurality of radio stations, including a radio station signal type, receiving a broadcast area for each of the plurality of radio stations, receiving a request for radio service from the user device, the request for radio service comprising a location of the user device, a user device signal threshold, and a user device antenna capability, wherein the user device antenna capability comprises at least one signal type, calculating a plurality of user device ranges for each of the plurality of radio stations, determining, a plurality of in-range radio stations, filtering, the plurality of in-range radio stations based at least in part on the user device signal threshold, further filtering the plurality of in-range radio stations based at least in part on the user device antenna capability, and transmitting the plurality of in-range radio stations, and related content for the each of the plurality of in-range radio stations.

A system and method for determining a precise location based on multimedia content. The method includes: analyzing a multimedia content element (MMCE), wherein the analysis further includes generating at least one signature to the MMCE; matching the generated at least one signature to at least one reference concept stored in a database, wherein each of the at least one stored concept is associated with a predetermined precise location; and identifying, based on the matching, a precise location depicted in the MMCE.

A method for transmitting supplemental content to a user device via a radio service system, the method includes receiving user listening information, retrieving supplemental content based at least in part on the user listening information to enrich the listening experience of a user, retrieving, a call to action configured to be operable by the user and, transmitting to the user device, the supplemental content and the call to action.

A system and method for enriching a concept database. The method includes determining, based on at least one signature of a first multimedia data element (MMDE) and signatures of a plurality of existing concepts in the concept database, at least one first concept among the plurality of existing concepts, wherein each of the at least one first concept matches a portion of the at least one signature of the first MMDE; generating a reduced representation of the first MMDE, wherein generating the reduced representation further comprises removing the portion of the first MMDE matching the at least one first concept; comparing the reduced representation of the first MMDE to signatures representing a plurality of second MMDEs to determine a plurality of matching second MMDEs; generating, based on the reduced representation of the first MMDE and the plurality of matching second MMDEs, at least one second concept; and adding the generated at least one second concept to the concept database.

A system and method for populating an available radio station broadcast list on a mobile device configured with a radio transmitter is disclosed. The method comprises identifying a plurality of radio stations in a database, each of the plurality of radio stations having a radio station broadcast area, each radio station broadcast area comprising a radio station transmitter location and a plurality of broadcast edge points, receiving a request, from the user device, for a list of available radio stations, the request comprising a geographic location of the user device, determining, for each of the plurality of radio stations, one broadcast edge point in the plurality of broadcast edge points that resides on a line defined by the radio station transmitter location, the geographic location of the user device, and the one broadcast edge point, and transmitting, to the user device, each radio station in the plurality of radio stations where the one broadcast edge point is further from the radio station transmitter location than the geographic location of the user device.
