Determining Popularity Ratings Using Social and Interactive Applications for Mass Media
20170366847 · 2017-12-21 · ·

Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products provide social and interactive applications for mass media based on real time ambient-audio and/or video identification. In some implementations, a method includes: receiving descriptors identifying ambient audio associated with a media broadcast; comparing the descriptors to one or more reference descriptors; and determining a rating for the media broadcast based at least in part on the results of the comparison.

AUTOMATED MEDIA IDENTIFICATION USING BLOCK COMPARISONS OF DIFFERENT RECORDED REPRESENTATIONS

A media item included in a broadcast is identified by receiving, at a processing device including a processor, a first recorded representation of a first media broadcast, which includes a recording of at least a portion of a first media item, via a known media station. The first recorded representation. An identity of the first media item is determined based on a broadcast schedule associated with the known media station. A second recorded representation of a second media broadcast transmitted via an unknown media station, which includes a recording of at least a portion of a media-item-of-interest is also received at the processing device. The media-item-of-interest is identified by the processing device based on a block-by-block comparison of the first recorded representation to the second recorded representation. The comparison includes comparing first blocks included in the first recorded representation against second blocks included in the second recorded representation on a frame by frame basis.

Methods and apparatus to determine a state of a media presentation device

Methods and apparatus to determine a state of a media presentation device are disclosed. Example disclosed methods include generating a first set of weighted coefficients based on first audio received by first and second microphones at a first time. Example disclosed methods include generating a second set of weighted coefficients based on second audio received by the first and second microphones at a second time after the first time. Example disclosed methods include comparing the first set of coefficients and the second set of coefficients to generate a similarity value. Example disclosed methods include, when the similarity value satisfies a threshold, determining that the media presentation device is in a first state. Example disclosed methods include, when the similarity value does not satisfy the threshold, determining that the media presentation device is in a second state.

Creating customized programming content

A system for construing a content presentation is disclosed. According to one embodiment, the system includes Input/Output (I/O) circuitry to receive an indicated location, and memory to store scheduling information that includes a location information and date information associated with the location information. A processor identifies at least one media segment for inclusion into a customized media programming stream based on (a) comparing the indicated location to the location information from the scheduling information; and (b) comparing the current date to the associated date information from the scheduling information. Further, the processer assembles a customized media programming stream by adding the at least one identified media segment to the customized media programming stream. The I/O circuitry transmits the customized media programming stream for presentation on a user device.

Systems and methods for automatically identifying a user preference for a participant from a competition event

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for determining a preference of a user for or against a participant of an event when a media asset relating to the event is being played based on monitoring user reactions to the event. Specifically, the media guidance application may detect a change of at least one of the biometric state (e.g., pulse rate, blood pressure, etc.) and physiological state (e.g., facial expression, gesture, body movement, etc.) with a user. The media guidance application may determine that an event has occurred within the sporting event that triggered the change. The media guidance application may determine that the user favors the first participant over the second participant, if the user reacts positively towards a score for the first participant in the event.

METHOD OF AUDIO/VIDEO BROADCAST PLAY OUT HANDOVER AND CORRESPONDING APPARATUS

Handover of broadcast audio/video content from a first/source device via an intermediate device to a second/destination device. The intermediate device is set up to receive by its own means the same broadcast audio/video content as received by the first/source device. If interruption of play out of the audio/video content by the first/source device is detected by the intermediate device, the intermediate device stores the received audio/video broadcast in timeshift memory. When a presence of the second/destination is detected, the intermediate device connects to the second/destination device and starts timeshifted streaming to the second/destination device.
