The electronic device receives first media content received over a first broadcast channel. The electronic device renders second media content, which is different from the first media content. The electronic device further detects, from the received first media content, a set of objects associated with a geo-location corresponding to the electronic device. The set of objects corresponds to an emergency at the geo-location. The electronic device further detects an emergency alert audio in the received first media content. The electronic device further extracts an emergency alert message received over a second broadcast channel associated with the geo-location based on the detected set of objects and the emergency alert audio in the received first media content. The electronic device further renders an emergency alert signal associated with the emergency alert message.

For example, a client computing device may monitor ambient sound for audio that matches audio sampled from broadcast content. In response to detecting matching audio, the client computing device transmits tracking data to a centralized content server. The content server records the tracking information and evaluates whether the matching audio was detected within a geographic area associated with the broadcast content. If so, the content server executes additional actions including transmitting supplemental content to the client computing device and/or updating summary level metrics that indicate receptions of broadcast content within target geographic locations.

A method is provided herein for selecting a combination of a subset of weather stations from among a plurality of weather stations for estimating the weather at a specific location. The method may include: receiving an indication of a plurality of weather stations within a predefined area, where the predefined area includes a first location; determining, for each of the plurality of weather stations, a distance of the weather station from the first location; calculating, for a plurality of different combinations of subsets of the plurality of weather stations, an average distance of the weather stations of each of the plurality of different combinations from the first location; calculating, for each of the different combinations of subsets, an average location relative to the first location; and selecting a combination of a subset of the plurality of weather stations based on the average distance and the average location.
