RADIO STATION RECOMMENDATIONS

Implementing and applying a database with radio station information that is gathered from client devices as stations become available to a plurality of users (i.e., crowd sourced radio station information) and allowing for a client device to download only the radio station information that is pertinent to the travel route of the user and/or radio station selection criteria associated with the client device or the user. Radio station information can be rendered via a graphical interface of a client device to allow the user to informatively select a new radio station, either before or as a current radio signal degrades to the point of being unusable. Radio station information may be rendered to cause the user's terrestrial radio to tune to a new station.

RADIO GENRE ENHANCEMENT USING CROWD-SOURCED LISTENER DATA
20200328832 · 2020-10-15 ·

A memory is configured to store listener data indicative of radio stations listened to by a plurality of listeners and genre classifications of the radio stations. A processor is programmed to combine a plurality of the genre classifications into a single combined genre classification responsive to listener behavior across the plurality of listeners indicating overlap in listening to the plurality of the genre classifications; separate one of the genre classifications into a plurality of separated genre classifications responsive to listener behavior across the plurality of listeners indicating disparate subsets of radio stations within the one of the genre classifications; and reclassify the radio stations according to the genre classifications as updated.

RDS decoder

The invention relates to a method for decoding a received RDS signal (R), comprising the following steps: determining an extreme value from among the absolute values of the RDS signal (R) integrals obtained in an elementary range interval (Te), and sliding from a starting point in at least one slide range (Tg); and extracting a binary pattern 0 if the extreme value is a minimum value, and a binary pattern 1 if the extreme value is a maximum value.

TIME-ALIGNMENT MEASURMENT FOR HYBRID HD TM RADIO TECHNOLOGY
20200287703 · 2020-09-10 ·

A method for processing audio signals in a radio transmitter, includes: receiving an analog audio sample stream and a digital audio sample stream; determining offsets in time between the analog audio stream and the digital audio stream using a normalized cross-correlation of audio envelopes of the analog audio sample stream and the digital audio sample stream; filtering the determined offsets in time to produce filtered offset values; determining an alignment slip adjustment value as a function of the filtered offset values; aligning the analog audio sample stream and the digital audio sample stream using the determined alignment slip adjustment value; and generating a hybrid radio signal for broadcast that includes time-aligned analog audio and digital audio.

AUGMENTING CONTENT FOR OVER-THE -AIR BROADCAST RADIO (AM OR FM) IN CONNECTED RADIO AND/OR ON MOBILE APPLICATIONS SYNCHRONIZED WITH OVER-THE-AIR BROADCAST RADIO
20200228215 · 2020-07-16 ·

A synchronization server creates an augmented radio listener experience by providing additional information, especially visual information, over a concurrent, parallel data connection to a user device during the radio broadcast. The additional information is synchronized to the radio broadcast item then playing, based on an event message received by the synchronization server from the radio station equipment. The synchronization server can implement real-time interactions between connected radio listeners and a disk jockey dashboard of the radio station. The synchronization server optionally can personalize advertisement content for transmission to user devices based on user profile information and audience criteria provided by the advertiser.

BROADCAST RESPONSE SYSTEM
20200145118 · 2020-05-07 ·

A broadcast response system provides, e.g., a radio broadcast listener with the ability to obtain media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using, e.g., the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by broadcast response server.

Voice operated electronic device that blocks radio commercials and substitutes alternate audio content
10594418 · 2020-03-17 ·

A system and method for blocking normal media content signals, such as radio program signals emitted on a speaker and substituting alternative content for blocked signals includes a voice control module operable to receive a blocking command via a microphone. Receiving a blocking command results in the normal content being blocked and predetermined alternative content is played for either a user specified time or a predetermined time. Control over the radio or other media device is completely oral via speech recognition technology.

BROADCAST RESPONSE METHOD AND SYSTEM

A system and method for broadcast response generally employing RDS, DARC, or similar technology is provided, including a method for responding to a broadcast comprising extracting an event identifier from a broadcast signal; detecting a response by a user to the broadcast signal; polling a communications device to determine a user identifier; and communicating the event identifier and the user identifier when the user response is detected.
