Collision detection method

A wireless device may receive packets according to a protocol, such as Bluetooth, and may rapidly react to receive an interfering RF packet instead of dropping the first RF packet and the interfering RF packet, to decrease message delay due to collisions in high device density environments. When a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) difference between the interfering RF packet and the first RF packet exceeds a threshold, the device may detect the interfering packet and resync a portion of its circuitry to lock on to and receive the interfering packet. The wireless receiver may detect the interfering RF packet by detecting one or more of: a specific resync byte sequence, an increase in RSSI, or a phase shift. Additionally, a wireless device may add the specific resync byte sequence to an RF packet of a standard protocol.

The present technique provides an apparatus comprising receiver circuitry to receive a signal formed from a plurality of multipath signal components, including a first set of multipath signal components that have been subjected to modulation by interaction with at least one moving part of a target machine. The first set of multipath signal components have time varying signal paths due to the interaction with said at least one moving part. Thereafter processing circuitry performs one or more processing operations on the modified evaluation signal to produce a motional signature indicative of the motion of said at least one moving part.

Codec parameter adjustment based on call endpoint RF conditions in a wireless network

A network device determines radio frequency (RF) conditions at a first endpoint and a second endpoint of a call or session. The network device determines optimum first codec parameters for the determined RF conditions at the first endpoint of the call or session, and determines optimum second codec parameters for the determined RF conditions at the second endpoint of the call or session. The network device sends the first codec parameters to the first endpoint for altering operation of a first codec at a first device at the first endpoint. The network device sends the second codec parameters to the second endpoint for altering operation of a second codec at a second device at the second endpoint.

A method for determining phase noise in a periodically modulated signal is described. The modulated signal is processed to generate a processed signal from the modulated signal. At least an approximate period of a modulation of the modulated signal is determined from the processed signal. The type of modulation of the modulated signal is determined from the processed signal. The modulated signal is demodulated based on the determined period and the determined type of modulation to generate a demodulated signal, and the phase noise is determined from the demodulated signal. Moreover, a measurement device is described.

A method is performed by a wireless communications device of transmitting measurement reports to an infrastructure equipment. The method comprises receiving signals transmitted by the infrastructure equipment, measuring a characteristic associated with the received signals, and selecting an index value from one of a plurality of index values. Each of the index values represents a range of values of the characteristic for which communications parameters of a transmitter in the infrastructure equipment and a receiver in the communication device should have to achieve an acceptable communications performance for values of the characteristic within the range of values of the characteristic. The method further comprises, subject to the selected index value, transmitting the selected index value to the infrastructure equipment.

An interconnect apparatus performs real time scoring and data throughput measurement of parallel data channels. The scoring and measurement information is communicated as feedback across the interconnect. Processing circuitry in the interconnect apparatus routes data to channels that have the best performance and reduces the data rate on channels that have lower performance based on the feedback information. This provides a method of dynamic load balancing to achieve optimal video data rates in a dynamic impedance environment. The interconnect apparatus also adjusts phase and data sampling times for improved fidelity of data transported across the interface.

A bandwidth allocation and monitoring method may divide available bandwidth on a shared communication medium into a plurality of discrete tones that can be individually allocated to modems on an as-needed basis. The effective modulation rate that a particular modem can use for each discrete tone can be monitored over time using a schedule of pilot tones transmitted from the modems on different tones at different times. The schedule may define representative pilot tones, in which case effective modulation rates for neighboring tones may be inferred from a determined effective modulation rate of a pilot tone.
