Received data equalization apparatus and method
The present invention discloses a receive data equalization apparatus. A delay-compensating calculation circuit retrieves training data groups of a training data signal to retrieve total delay amount, generate signed compensation amounts according to a relation among training data contents of training data in each of the training data groups to generate total compensation amount accordingly, and solve equations that correspond total delay amount of the training data groups to the total compensation amount to obtain each of the compensation amounts. A receive data equalization circuit receives the compensation amounts and retrieves a receive data group in a receive data signal, generate signed receive compensation amounts according to a relation among receive data contents of receive data in the receive data group to generate a total receive compensation amount accordingly to perform equalization on a terminal edge of the receive data group according to the total receive compensation amount.

Electromagnetic interference cancellation for wireline receivers
Embodiments of the present disclosure utilizes the natural properties of RFI noise on a wireline link. Since differential RFI noise in the system has some correlation with the common mode noise on the cable, a replica of RFI noise can be regenerated by an adaptive filter based on information about the common mode noise. The replica RFI is subtracted from the equalizer output prior to the data decision circuitry or slicer. In this method, the system does not require expensive cable, nor does the equalizer suffer additional loss due to an RFI notch filter. Since RFI can be detected and mitigated, this information can also be coupled to safety systems to increase functional safety under high EMI conditions.

Outbound interference reduction in a broadband powerline system
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for reducing outbound interference in a broadband powerline communication system. Data is modulated on first and second carrier frequencies and is transmitted via respective first and second lines of the powerline system. A characteristic of at least one of the carrier signals (e.g., phase or amplitude) is adjusted in order to improve the electrical balance of the lines of the transmission system. This improvement in electrical balance reduces the radiated interference of the powerline system. Also disclosed is the use of a line balancing element on or more lines of the powerline system for altering the characteristics of at least one of the power lines in order to compensate for a known imbalance of the transmission system.
