RADIOTHERAPY PROCESS AND SYSTEM
Described is a process for performing radiotherapy treatment according to the invention comprising the following operations: S.1) providing a radiotherapy system (1) comprising a radiation head (3), a movement system (7), a diagnostics subsystem for images, in turn comprising a probe (13) and a position detection subsystem (11); S.2) by means of the at least one probe (13) acquiring a plurality of images (IM_1, IM_2, IMJ, IM_N) of internal sections of a body to be treated (P); S.3) by means of the position detection subsystem (11) detecting the position in space of the probe (13) whilst it acquires each of said images (IMJ, IMJ, IMJ, IM_N); S.4) on the basis of said images (IMJ, IMJ, IMJ, IM_N) and by means of the movement system (7) moving the radiation head (3) and performing a predetermined treatment on the body to be treated (P).
Eye protector for use with immobilization masks during radiotherapy
The present specification discloses a radiation therapy protective eye mask for covering a patient's eyes, with the radiation therapy protective eye mask being placed over the eyes and beneath an immobilization mask. The radiation therapy protective eye mask includes a radiation shielding layer configured to cover at least one eye when a patient is undergoing radiotherapy treatments. A first layer of material can be positioned between the radiation shielding layer and the eyes, to provide cushioning and barrier between the radiation shielding layer and the skin. The radiation therapy protective eye mask can include a concave portion over the eyes to permit opening and closing of the eyes. Further radiation shielding layer can include structural and/or surface features and contours to reflect at least some of the radiation. In this way, the present eye protector reduces the quantity of radiation incident on the eyes for reducing eye damage.
Modular Mouthpiece
A modular mouthpiece for soft tissue placement includes a base tray and soft tissue placement inserts. The soft tissue placement inserts are configured to be selectively coupled to the base tray.
BODY PART POSITIONING TABLE OR TABLE OVERLAY HAVING MULTIPLE MASK MOUNTING SYSTEMS
A body part positioning table or table overlay includes a planar surface to support a body part. The table or table overlay further includes a first mask mounting system having a first configuration for mounting a first mask that positions and secures the body part relative to the planar surface, and a second mask mounting system having a second configuration for mounting a second mask to position and secure the body part relative to the planar surface.
Breast Positioning Device for Breast Cancer Radiation Therapy
A breast positioning device for breast cancer radiation therapy includes i) a body portion made of a stretchable synthetic fabric and having a generally tubular shape configured for tight fitting on a person torso, ii) a bra cup on a first portion on the body portion, defining a first lateral side thereof, and iii) a flat portion on a second portion on the body portion, defining a second lateral side, the second portion being positioned laterally symmetrical to the first portion on the body portion. The bra cup is thermoformed in the stretchable synthetic fabric to have a greater transparency than surroundings thereof rendering a first breast therein visible while immobilizing the first breast therein in a predetermined position. When the breast positioning device is worn by a person during the breast cancer radiation therapy, the bra cup immobilizes the first breast therein in the predetermined position which is both visible and suitable for treatment while forcing a second breast in a flattened position away from the first lateral side.
Pin Closure System
A pin closure system, especially for use in securing the upper and lower frame plates of a radiation therapy treatment mask. An upper sleeve having an expansile portion is placed and engaged within a shaped fenestration of an upper frame plate, while a lower sleeve having an expansile portion is placed and engaged within a shaped fenestration of a lower frame plate. An axial pin is inserted spanning both sleeves, causing the expansile portions to expand radially, engaging the sleeves together and locking the plates together. The system may also be used to use a single pin to simultaneously lock the upper and lower frame plates together and to an external substrate, such as a treatment table for repeatable and highly accurate patient positioning.
Intra-oral device for protecting oral tissues during radiation treatment
An intra-oral device for positioning oral tissues during medical treatment, for example, radiation treatment. The device includes upper and lower dental arch members configured to engage the maxillary and mandibular teeth or edentulous arch(es) of a patient, respectively. Moldable material is maintained within channels formed in the dental arch members by partially extruding the material through keyways formed in the arch members during the bite mold process. The upper and lower dental arch members are operatively coupled to provide a dental arch assembly. A protective element to displace or depress a patients tongue is secured at a suitable working position with respect to the dental arch assembly via a threaded strut adjustably coupled between the protective element and a support structure disposed between the dental arch members.
Device For Immobilizing The Head Of A Patient
The invention relates to a device for immobilizing the head of a patient in an installation for carrying out radiotherapy, wherein the device comprises a thermoplastic mask, shaped according to the contour of the patient's head, and a mouthpiece, wherein the mouthpiece has a central part from which a spout protrudes in the direction of the mouth and from which a holding structure protrudes in the direction away from the mouth, wherein an air channel is provided which extends through the mouthpiece from the mouth-side end of the spout to the side of the central part in the direction away from the mouth, and wherein a region of the mask is shaped according to the contour of the holding structure. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a device, to the use of such a device for immobilizing the head of a patient in an installation for carrying out radiotherapy, and to an installation for carrying out radiotherapy which, in order to immobilize the head of a patient, comprises such a device.
Multi-color charged particle detector apparatus and method of use thereof
The invention comprises a method and apparatus for using a multi-layer multi-color scintillation based detector element to image a tumor of a patient using a process of determining residual energies of positively charged particles after passing through the patient, the process comprising the steps of: (1) transmitting the positively charged particles at known energies through the patient and into a multi-layer detector element; (2) detecting first and second secondary photons, resultant from passage of the positively charged particles, respectively from a first layer of a first scintillation material and a second layer of a second scintillation material at two respective layer depths, where the first wavelength range differs from the second wavelength range; (4) determining residual energies of the positively charged particles, using output from the step of detecting; and (5) relating the residual energies to body densities to generate an image.
Positioning stud for radioactive therapy and stereotactic device
A positioning stud for radioactive therapy includes a stud rod, a stud tip, and an insulating component. The insulating component is connected between the stud rod and the stud tip, and is used to prevent contact between the stud rod and the stud tip.
