A technique for operating a mobile station as wireless local-area network [WLAN] gateway. The mobile station is provided with a gateway application to control the following operations: activating (3-0) the WLAN means as a WLAN base station capable of communicating with at least one WLAN terminal over a WLAN network; creating a network identifier (3-2, 3-4) for the WLAN base station; assigning (3-8, 3-10) an internet protocol address for the at least one WLAN terminal; resolving domain name service [DNS] queries (3-12 . . . 3-18) in cooperation with an external DNS service system; assigning at least one port number for each protocol supported by the gateway application; and tunneling internet traffic (3-30 . . . 3-36) between the at least one WLAN terminal and an internet host over the broadband connection.

Device assisted CDR creation, aggregation, mediation and billing is provided. In some embodiments, device assisted CDR creation, aggregation, mediation and billing for a wireless network includes collecting device generated service usage information for one or more devices in wireless communication on the wireless network; and providing the device generated service usage information in a syntax (e.g., a device assisted charging data record (CDR)) and a communication protocol (e.g., 3GPP, 3GPP2, or other communication protocols) that can be used by other network devices to augment or replace network generated service usage information for the one or more devices in wireless communication on the wireless network.

There is provided an end point device including one or more processors configured to establish a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection with an intermediate networking device, communicate, to the intermediate networking device, an end point device credential that uniquely identifies the end point device, access a WWAN using a single user account associated with the end point device credential and the intermediate networking device, transmit network traffic to a forwarding layer of the intermediate networking device for forwarding the network traffic to the WWAN according to an access network forwarding policy, and communicate signals to indicate a current geographic location of the end point device.

There is provided an end point device including one or more processors configured to establish a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection with an intermediate networking device, communicate, to the intermediate networking device, an end point device credential that uniquely identifies the end point device, access a WWAN using a single user account associated with the end point device credential and the intermediate networking device, transmit network traffic to a forwarding layer of the intermediate networking device for forwarding the network traffic to the WWAN according to an access network forwarding policy, and communicate signals to indicate a current geographic location of the end point device.

Systems and apparatus, and methods relating thereto, can be implemented to include base station having a transceiver adapted to establish a radio-frequency link with a mobile telephone; a first interface, separate from said transceiver, that is adapted for communication over the public Internet; and a controller. The controller can be adapted to obtain from a server accessed via the public Internet, gateway address information for a remote gateway that provides an interface between the public Internet and a network of a telephone service provider and route data from the mobile telephone, over the public Internet, to the remote gateway.
