An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus, an option device, and a power supply line. The image forming apparatus includes an apparatus controller, an image forming unit, and an apparatus power supply. The apparatus power supply is configured to generate a control voltage that is supplied to the apparatus controller and an apparatus drive voltage that is supplied to the image forming unit. To provide a printing system that can print, on a medium, an alignment mark for aligning the medium in a processing device that performs processing on the medium after printing without complicated work carried out by a user. The printing system includes a printer, the processing device, a printer control unit, a processing device control unit, a data creating unit that creates printing data for performing printing on the medium and processing data for performing processing on the medium after printing, and a data processor that transmits the printing data to the printer control unit and transmits the processing data to the processing device control unit. The data processor creates alignment data for aligning the medium in the processing device, and transmits the alignment data to the printer control unit. The printer control unit controls the printer to print the alignment mark on the medium.

An image forming apparatus improved in a setting process for a recording medium to thereby make it possible to prevent print processing from failing to be executed. In the image forming apparatus including a plurality of sheet feeders for storing recording sheets, when recording sheets are stored in one of the sheet feeders, at least one of the recording sheets is conveyed from the corresponding sheet feeder, and the type of the conveyed recording sheet is identified. Then, the identified type of the recording sheet is set as the type of the stored recording sheets. This makes it possible to prevent occurrence of a situation in which print processing is not executed because the identified type of the recording sheet does not match the set type of the recording sheets, whereby it is possible to prevent print processing from failing to be executed.

Identification systems and/or isolation systems described herein may facilitate isolation of sheets that were previously fastened together by one or more fasteners. An alignment system can facilitate accurate alignment of a first sheet at an upstream location relative to a second sheet at a downstream location via machine learning.

An example post-processing apparatus includes an input unit to receive a request for a manual stapling operation, a stapling device, a switch to control power supplied from an image forming apparatus in a sleep mode to the stapling device, a sensor to detect print media being input to the post-processing apparatus, and a processor. The processor is to receive power from the image forming apparatus, which is in the sleep mode, control the switch to switch the post-processing apparatus from the sleep mode to a manual stapling operation mode when a request for a manual stapling operation is received via the input unit, and operate the stapling device when an input detection signal regarding the print media is received from the sensor.
