A reading processing apparatus includes an obtaining device configured to obtain a picked-up image in which an image of a display device provided with at least two color display portions is picked up, and an estimation device configured to estimate an elapsed time elapsed since a start of exposure of the display device to an environment that has a predetermined environment temperature, based on the picked-up image obtained by the obtaining device. When the at least two color display portions are irradiated with light in a predetermined wavelength range, respective colors of the at least two color display portions fade with time at color fading rates different from each other and dependent on an ambient temperature.

Systems and methods for detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system are disclosed. One or more induction sensors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the transported media, with detection signals sent from the sensors to a system processing unit. An ultrasonic detector is employed in some embodiments to output another detection signal. One or more microphones may also be included, for detecting the sound created as the medium is being transported. The system processing unit analyzes various detection signals and analyzes computed sound values from the microphones, to determine the presence and location of metal in the media. A position jam detector may assist in determining jams of the media along the medium transport path.

A recognition system including: a specifier that specifies a person who approaches an image forming apparatus using predetermined user information; a memory that stores the person specified by the specifier; a recognizer that recognizes at least any of the stored persons as a candidate who carries away a recording medium on which an image is formed on the basis of a user's print job; and a notificator that notifies a message regarding carrying away of the recording medium on which the image is formed to the recognized candidate.

In an image processing apparatus, a processor reads a boot loader from a first storage device, reads a main program from a second storage device by executing the boot loader, and, by executing the main program, transitions to an operation state. The first storage device is mounted on a board on which the processor is mounted. The second storage device is electrically connected with the processor via a bus. Provided is an image forming system capable of updating internal data of an external device according to an instruction from a server. An app-installing unit installs an application for updating internal data of card reader in an image forming apparatus. An internal-data-updating unit causes the image forming apparatus to execute the application installed by the app-installing unit. An app-acquiring unit acquires the application from the server according to an instruction from the server. An app-executing unit executes the app acquired by the app-acquiring unit and updates the external device to the internal data. As a result, the internal data of the card reader is updated.
