An image reading apparatus includes a first opening/closing unit to openably and closeably support a sheet conveyance portion with respect to an image reading portion, and a second opening/closing unit to openably and closeably support the sheet conveyance portion with respect to the image reading portion. The first opening/closing unit includes a first spring to urge the sheet conveyance portion in a direction in which the sheet conveyance portion moves from a closed position toward an opened position, and the second opening/closing unit includes a second spring to urge the sheet conveyance portion in the direction in which the sheet conveyance portion moves from the closed position toward the opened position and an oil damper to attenuate vibration energy of the sheet conveyance portion. The first opening/closing unit does not include an oil damper.

The position of the apparatus body can be switched between a first position in which the apparatus body is not in use and a second position in which the apparatus body reads a document using the reader, and in which a projected area of the apparatus body on the mounting surface is larger than that in the first position, and the center of gravity of the apparatus body is lower than or equal to a rotation axis center of the apparatus body in a vertical direction viewed in a rotation axis direction of the apparatus body when the apparatus body is in the first position or in the second position.

The fixing portion includes first and second screw holes, a through-hole, and an extension portion. If the optical sensor is placed on the fixing portion in a first orientation where the first positioning hole is aligned with the first screw hole and the second positioning hole is aligned with the second screw hole, the connector is inserted into the through-hole without interfering with the extension portion so that screws fix the optical sensor. If the optical sensor is placed on the fixing portion in a second orientation where the first positioning hole is aligned with the second screw hole and the second positioning hole is aligned with the first screw hole, the connector interferes with the extension portion so that the connector is not inserted into the through-hole.

An image reading device includes a placement section on which a subject is placed, an image capturing unit that is disposed above the placement section and captures an image of the subject, an irradiating unit that is disposed above the placement section and irradiates the subject with light, and a display unit that is disposed between the placement section and the image capturing unit and between the placement section and the irradiating unit, the display unit being located at a position outside an image capturing range of the image capturing unit and an irradiation range of the irradiating unit.

The holding member has one end attached on the image reading device, and holds the image reading device opened with respect to the image forming device when another end of the holding member is inserted into the hole formed in the wall part. The holding member includes a first regulation part that comes into contact with a lower surface of the wall part to regulate detachment of the other end of the holding member from the hole.
