An image reading apparatus includes a first opening/closing unit to openably and closeably support a sheet conveyance portion with respect to an image reading portion, and a second opening/closing unit to openably and closeably support the sheet conveyance portion with respect to the image reading portion. The first opening/closing unit includes a first spring to urge the sheet conveyance portion in a direction in which the sheet conveyance portion moves from a closed position toward an opened position, and the second opening/closing unit includes a second spring to urge the sheet conveyance portion in the direction in which the sheet conveyance portion moves from the closed position toward the opened position and an oil damper to attenuate vibration energy of the sheet conveyance portion. The first opening/closing unit does not include an oil damper.

An image reading apparatus includes a support section in contact with a mounting surface on which the apparatus is mounted, an apparatus body including a reader, the apparatus body, and a position holding section. The position of the apparatus body can be switched between a first position in which the apparatus body is not in use and a second position in which the apparatus body reads a document using the reader, and in which a projected area of the apparatus body on the mounting surface is larger than that in the first position, and the center of gravity of the apparatus body is lower than or equal to a rotation axis center of the apparatus body in a vertical direction viewed in a rotation axis direction of the apparatus body when the apparatus body is in the first position or in the second position.

An image forming apparatus includes a fixing portion and an optical sensor having first and second positioning holes and a connector. The fixing portion includes first and second screw holes, a through-hole, and an extension portion. If the optical sensor is placed on the fixing portion in a first orientation where the first positioning hole is aligned with the first screw hole and the second positioning hole is aligned with the second screw hole, the connector is inserted into the through-hole without interfering with the extension portion so that screws fix the optical sensor. If the optical sensor is placed on the fixing portion in a second orientation where the first positioning hole is aligned with the second screw hole and the second positioning hole is aligned with the first screw hole, the connector interferes with the extension portion so that the connector is not inserted into the through-hole.

An image reading device includes a placement section on which a subject is placed, an image capturing unit that is disposed above the placement section and captures an image of the subject, an irradiating unit that is disposed above the placement section and irradiates the subject with light, and a display unit that is disposed between the placement section and the image capturing unit and between the placement section and the irradiating unit, the display unit being located at a position outside an image capturing range of the image capturing unit and an irradiation range of the irradiating unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an image reading device, a holding member that is rod-like, and an image forming device having an image forming unit that forms an image on a sheet, and having a wall part having a hole. The image reading device reads an image on a document, is provided on the image forming device, and rotates around a rotation shaft openable and closable with respect to the image forming device. The holding member has one end attached on the image reading device, and holds the image reading device opened with respect to the image forming device when another end of the holding member is inserted into the hole formed in the wall part. The holding member includes a first regulation part that comes into contact with a lower surface of the wall part to regulate detachment of the other end of the holding member from the hole.

An image reading apparatus incudes a guiding shaft extending in an axial direction; a reading portion supported by the shaft so as to be movable in the axial direction; a casing accommodating the reading portion, the casing including a first supporting portion supporting an end portion of the shaft and a second supporting portion supporting the other end portion of the shaft; and an elastically deformable bonding portion bonding the casing and the shaft with each other, the bonding portion being provided between the first supporting portion and the second supporting portion in the axial direction and between the casing and the shaft in a diametrical direction perpendicular to the axial direction. The shaft is supported by the first supporting portion, the second supporting portion and the bonding portion, without contact to the casing except for the first supporting portion and the second supporting portion.

An image reading apparatus for reading an image of an original includes an illumination portion for illuminating the original with light, a reflection member including a reflecting surface for reflecting the light from the original; a converting portion for photoelectrically converting the light reflected by the reflection member, and a casing for accommodating the reflection member. The casing is provided with an opening which is open to an outside of the casing. A surface of the reflecting member opposite from the reflecting surface and a portion defining the opening are bonded to each other with an adhesive.

According to an embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a scanner unit, an image forming unit, a frame, a first adjustment mechanism, and a second adjustment mechanism. The scanner unit has an image reading section. The image forming unit forms an image read by the scanner unit on a sheet. The frame includes a first support section and a second support section. The first support section supports the image forming unit. The second support section is positioned below the scanner unit. The first adjustment mechanism steplessly adjusts a distance in an up-down direction between the scanner unit and the second support section. The second adjustment mechanism gradually adjusts the distance in the up-down direction between the scanner unit and the second support section.

A reading apparatus includes: a document platen on which a document is placed; a reading portion configured to read a document placed on the document platen; a cover that is openable and closable between a first position at which the document platen is covered and a second position at which the document is uncovered; and a frame member including a first inclination portion and a second inclination portion, configured to constitute at least a part of an outer frame of the document platen, the first inclination portion being adjacent to the document platen and higher with an increasing distance from the document platen, and the second inclination portion being arranged farther away from the document platen than the first inclination portion and higher with an increasing distance from the document platen.

A sheet discharging apparatus includes a discharge unit and a stacking portion. The stacking portion includes a first supporting portion including a first part and a second part provided with an interval therebetween in a width direction of the sheets, and configured to support a first sheet having a width larger than the interval between the first part and the second part, and a second supporting portion provided at a position between the first part and the second part in the width direction and below the first supporting portion in a gravity direction, and configured to support a second sheet having a width smaller than the interval. The second supporting portion includes a recess portion where the second supporting portion is recessed in the gravity direction to be lower than a height at which the second supporting portion comes into contact with a lower surface of the second sheet.
