An image forming apparatus includes a main assembly; an operating portion mounted in a front surface side of the main assembly so as to be slidable in a widthwise direction of the main assembly and configured to be capable of inputting a signal to the main assembly, wherein the operating portion includes a first connector and a second connector; a first cable configured to electrically connect the main assembly and the first connector of the operating portion in a state in which a first loop is formed; and a second cable having a cable diameter smaller than a cable diameter of the first cable and configured to electrically connect the main assembly and the second connector of the operating portion in a state in which a second loop is formed inside the first cable.

The locking mechanism 70 switches from the locked state to the unlocked state when a specific operation is performed on the operation section 15 in the locked state. The angle adjustment mechanism 60 is provided with the receiving member 63 provided in the operation section 15, and a contacting member 64 for holding the operation section 15 at an arbitrary angle by the raising mechanism 80 of the operation section 15. The receiving member 63 is provided with a portion where the contacting force of the contacting member 64 to the receiving member 63 becomes smaller than the predetermined force in the process that the operation section 15 is raised by the prescribed angle.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a first housing, an image reading unit including a reading sensor, a communication circuit board including a communication antenna capable of short-distance wireless communication, a second housing located above the first housing and accommodating the image reading unit and the communication circuit board, and an operation panel located in front of the second housing. The second housing includes a first side wall located at a rear of the operation panel, and a second side wall located at the rear of the operation panel. An inner surface of the first side wall is opposed to the communication circuit board. An outer surface of the first side-wall has a mark indicating a position to which a communication object is brought close.

An image forming apparatus includes a display and an image forming unit. The display includes a display screen to display a preview image before an image is formed on a recording medium. The image forming unit forms, on the recording medium, an image corresponding to the preview image displayed on the display screen. Each of a vertical length and a horizontal length of the display screen is equal to or greater than a length of a long side of a maximum size recording medium on which an image is to be formed by the image forming unit.

A detection device includes an optical detector and a controller. The optical detector includes a protrusion including light-emitting portions and light-receiving portions, and detects a position of an object of interest to be detected by receiving, with use of one or more of the light-receiving portions, reflected light that occurs when light emitted from one or more of the light-emitting portions is reflected by the object of interest to be detected. The controller performs predetermined control on the detection device in accordance with a detection result of detecting, by the optical detector, an action when a user contacts the protrusion of the optical detector.

A document pressing unit is openable with respect to an apparatus body including a placement portion on which a document is placed, and is configured to press the document from above. The document pressing unit includes a body frame, a pair of hinge units, a pair of metal fixing members, and fastening screws. The body frame is able to press the document. The hinge units respectively include hinge legs mounted on the apparatus body, and are mounted with a certain distance in a left-right direction on a rear end of the body frame to openably support the body frame with respect to the apparatus body. The fixing members fix the hinge units to the body frame, respectively. The fastening screws fasten the fixing member and the hinge unit through the body frame so that the fixing member and the hinge unit sandwich the body frame in an up-down direction.

An image forming apparatus and method for controlling an image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a detecting unit, a projecting unit, and a control unit. The detecting unit is configured to detect an event that needs user work on the image forming apparatus. The projecting unit is configured to project an image onto a projection target. The control unit is configured to control projection by the projecting unit. When an event that needs user work on the image forming apparatus is detected, the projecting unit projects an image onto a projection target so that a target portion of the user work can be identified and also projects an instruction image for performing the user work.

A push type key includes a base including a main body, a key portion having an operation surface, first and second elastic portions connecting between the main body and the key portion, and an electrical equipment substrate provided on a back side of the base. The substrate includes an operating portion acted on by the key portion when the key portion moves. The first and second elastic portions have symmetrical configurations with respect to a phantom line passing through a center of the key portion, as seen perpendicularly to the operation surface. The operating portion is disposed at a position closer to the first elastic portion than to the second elastic portion. The base is provided with a third elastic portion connecting the key portion with the main body or with the second elastic portion in a side of the second elastic portion with respect to the phantom line.
