An information processing apparatus includes a mode setting unit in which a value indicating whether a scanning device is for simplex scanning or duplex scanning is set up, an interface unit that controls whether to enable signal exchange with an external memory based on the value set up in the mode setting unit, and a transfer unit that retrieves image data from the external memory and transfers the image data to an image processing unit. Provided is an image-forming device that can execute operations that do not use a document-reading unit even when abnormality in a light source is detected in the initial operation at startup. The image-forming device includes a document-reading unit, and together with being able to execute image-forming operations that use the document-reading unit, is able to execute image-forming operations that do not use the document-reading unit. The image-forming device includes a light-source-abnormality-detection unit that executes a light-source-abnormality-detection operation, and when an abnormality in the light source is detected by the light-source-abnormality-detection operation that is executed at startup, stores the startup signal level that is outputted in a light-source-abnormality-storage unit as light-source-abnormality information. The image-forming device performs normal startup in which all image-forming operations can be executed regardless of the detection results of the light-source-abnormality-detection operation.

A printing apparatus determines whether a charging function is set to be enabled. If the charging function is set to be enabled, the printing apparatus prohibits use of a direct wireless communication mode.

According to aspects of the present disclosure, in a memory of an MFP, information indicating that an additional function, which is inactivated when shipped from a factory, is activated or inactivated is stored. The MFP starts a trial mode in which trial of the additional function is activated, then the additional function becomes activated within an effective period of the trial mode. The MFP is configured to receive an input of setting information used for the additional function, store the input setting information in the memory and execute a process of the additional function in accordance with the setting information. Further, when the trial mode is terminated, the MFP initializes the setting information in a case where the stored information indicates that the additional function is inactivated, but does not initialize the setting information in a case where the stored information indicates that the additional function is activated.

An image forming apparatus including applications and system side software for providing system side services to the applications is provided, in which the image forming apparatus includes: an authentication module for displaying an authentication screen on an operation panel of the image forming apparatus, wherein the authentication module allows the image forming apparatus to display a screen for using the image forming apparatus instead of the authentication screen if authentication data input from the authentication screen satisfies an authentication condition, and wherein the authentication module is provided in the image forming apparatus separately from the system side software.

When a user selects a predetermined service provided by the image forming apparatus, the first storage unit changes the timeout period to a value obtained from an external apparatus providing the selected service. The first controller uses the changed timeout period to determine whether or not a timeout process is to be performed.
