Scanning of document-adhered removable notes individuated from their documents
Note sheets, having opposite free and adhesive edges, removably attached to documents are individuated and scanned. A document-edge bearing device shifts away from a document to allow the document's edge nearest its note sheet's free edge to droop under its own weight and open a free-edge-document gap. A scanning control unit situates into the gap a note-wedging guide component of a pivotal scanning device carried on a note-targeting platform, and having a note-sheet scanner and rollers for moving a removable note sheet across the scanner, both to peel the note sheet off its document, and to scan the note sheet. In a note-sheet presence/position detecting mechanism, document-edge pressing sliders wrinkle a document, and a control-linked sensor detects a shading-difference-originating gap between the free edge of any removable note sheet, and the document to which it is attached, to determine physical presence and document-relative position of the note sheet.

An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment includes an image reading unit configured to generate reference data by reading a reference surface and to generate image data by reading a sheet. A reference unit has a reference surface. A shading correction unit determines whether a portion of the reference surface includes a contaminant based on image data generated by the image reading unit reading the portion of the reference unit. When the portion of the reference surface is determined to not include a contaminant, the shading correction unit generates reference data based on the image data generated by the image reading unit reading the portion of the reference surface determined to not include a contaminant.

An image reading apparatus includes a front-side reader, which includes a white LED configured to irradiate an original with light and a CMOS sensor configured to receive light that is reflected by the original. The front-side reader is configured to generate read data that represents a luminance value of an image on the original from the result of receiving light with the CMOS sensor. The image reading apparatus stores, in a non-volatile memory, a condition for determining whether there is a sub-scanning color shift, and uses a sub-scanning color shift detector to determine whether there is a sub-scanning color shift based on the read data obtained from the front-side reader and the condition stored in the non-volatile memory. When there is a sub-scanning color shift, the image reading apparatus corrects the sub-scanning color shift by correcting the read data with a color shift corrector.

An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment includes an image reading unit configured to generate reference data by reading a reference surface and to generate image data by reading a sheet. A reference unit has a reference surface. A shading correction unit determines whether a portion of the reference surface includes a contaminant based on image data generated by the image reading unit reading the portion of the reference unit. When the portion of the reference surface is determined to not include a contaminant, the shading correction unit generates reference data based on the image data generated by the image reading unit reading the portion of the reference surface determined to not include a contaminant.

An image reading apparatus includes a projection portion arranged between a first reading position of a first image reading portion and a second reading position of a second image reading portion in a sheet conveyance direction. The projection portion projects from one of an upper surface of a main body unit and a lower surface of a sheet conveyer and is arranged outside an area through which a sheet on a conveyance path passes in a width direction orthogonal to the sheet conveyance direction. An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus which forms an image on a sheet, an image reading apparatus which reads the image formed on the sheet by the image forming apparatus, and a finisher which performs a post-printing process with the sheet. The image forming system further includes: a paper path which is provided in the image reading apparatus and through which the sheet is passed; and an electricity eliminator which is arranged in the upstream side of the finisher to eliminate static electricity of the sheet, wherein the electricity eliminator applies at least one of water and charge to front and back sides of the sheet.
