An image processing apparatus includes a processing target selection unit. The processing target selection unit inquires which image data obtained by a conveyed-document reading unit or by a fixed-document reading unit, to be set as a processing target when a user determination unit has determined that users are identical, determines image data obtained by a conveyed-document reading unit as a processing target when the user determination unit has determined that the users are not identical and a determination unit has determined that the document on the platen is a left document, and inquires which image data image data obtained by the conveyed-document reading unit or by the fixed-document reading unit, to be set as the processing target when the user determination unit has determined that the users are not identical, and the determination unit has determined that the document on the platen is not a left document.

An imager is provided. The imager has an imaging platen which presents an imaging surface against which an object to be imaged can be placed. The imaging platen has a photodetector layer and a light guiding layer operable to guide light towards the object. The imager includes a light source operable to emit light into the light guiding layer. The light source is located at an edge of the light guiding layer, to guide light into the light guiding layer of the imaging platen.

An imager is provided. The imager has an imaging platen which presents an imaging surface against which an object to be imaged can be placed. The imaging platen has a photodetector layer and a light guiding layer operable to guide light towards the object. The imager includes a light source operable to emit light into the light guiding layer. The light source is located at an edge of the light guiding layer, to guide light into the light guiding layer of the imaging platen.

An image sensor unit (1A) includes: a light condenser (40) that condenses light including image information of an illuminated object; an image sensor (48) that receives the light passed through the light condenser (40) and that converts the light to an electrical signal; and a frame (10A) that houses the light condenser (40) and the image sensor (48), wherein the image sensor unit (1A) includes an urging member (50A) that urges and fixes the light condenser (40) to the frame (45), and the urging member (50A) urges and fixes the light condenser (40) to the frame (10A) from a light entering side or a light emission side of the light.

An image reading apparatus according to the present disclosure includes a platen glass, an image reader, and an output interface. An original is placed on the platen glass. The image reader is configured to read an image of the original on the platen glass. The image reader includes at least one sensor configured to detect a quantity of light for each of a plurality of regions on the platen glass. The output interface is configured to output information which identifies one or more regions of the plurality of regions in which the quantity of light detected therefrom exceeds a given value.

An image reading apparatus includes a transparent document platen on which a document is to be placed, a reader configured to read an image of the document placed on the document platen, a controller configured to perform a reading mode to cause the reader to read a document tucked in a storage member, which has a transparent portion and can store the document, in a state in which the storage member in which the document is tucked is placed on the document platen so that the transparent portion contacts the document platen, and a display configured to display, in the reading mode, a screen indicating an orientation in which the storage member is to be placed on the document platen.

In an image reading device including a document platen, a document holder, multiple light sources, and a close contact type image sensor, the light sources are sequentially turned on and the image sensor individually reads light of multiple different colors reflected from a document in a main scanning direction. When the document holder is opened, in an area determination process, a first scanning area where a difference between output values of the image sensor when the light sources are sequentially turned on is within a predetermined threshold value range, and a second scanning area where the difference is outside the predetermined threshold value range are determined in an entire scanning area of the image sensor. A document size in the main scanning direction is detected based on a position of a boundary in the main scanning direction between the first and second scanning areas determined in the area determination process.

An image reading apparatus reads an image on a document surface. The image reading apparatus includes a document-supporting unit, a light source, and an image reading unit. The document-supporting unit supports the document and transmits light. The light source, from a direction inclined with respect to a line perpendicular to the document surface, irradiates the document surface with an irradiation beam transmitted through the document-supporting unit. The image reading unit reads the image in accordance with light reflected from the document surface and thereby generates image data. The document-supporting unit enables varying degree that the irradiation beam scatters in passing through the document-supporting unit.

An image reading apparatus including a reading unit comprising a photodetector configured to read an image information on a sheet, and a projecting portion, a case storing the photodetector therein, the case comprising a transparent portion configured to transmit light to be received by the photodetector, and a portion defining an opening through which the projecting portion is projected outward from the case, and an elastic portion provided to fill a space where the projecting portion is not present in the opening. The case movably stores the photodetector within a range where the projecting portion is movable in the opening.

A mechanism for supporting a traveling body includes a traveling body which reciprocates and shifts, a track member extending in a direction in which the traveling body shifts, a track surface provided in the track member to slide the traveling body, a drive section that drives the traveling body, and a slide member provided in the traveling body to support the traveling body slidably via a lubricant between the track surface and the slide member. The slide member includes a slide contact portion that slides on the track surface, a slide barrier portion provided on at least one side of the slide contact portion along a slide direction of the slide contact portion, and a guide portion which scrapes the lubricant in association with sliding of the slide contact portion, and guides the lubricant to between the slide contact portion and the slide barrier portion.
