An image scanner includes a conveyance path and a conveyor that conveys a medium through the conveyance path. The medium bears a detection mark that is spaced from a leading edge of the medium in a medium conveyance direction. A background member is disposed opposite the conveyance path. A luminance sensor is disposed opposite the background member via the conveyance path. The luminance sensor detects a luminance value of each of the background member and the medium. A controller controls the luminance sensor to detect the luminance value at a plurality of times while the conveyor conveys the medium so as to obtain a plurality of detected luminance values. The controller determines a ground color luminance value of a ground color area on the medium based on a determination range including a first peak luminance value among the plurality of detected luminance values.

A transport device includes: a container portion that accommodates a transportable member; a receiving portion disposed above or below the container portion to at least partially overlap the container portion in a plan view, to receive the transportable member; a transport path along which the transportable member accommodated in the container portion is transported to the receiving portion; a first enlargement portion disposed at the container portion, the first enlargement portion moving in a direction opposite to a transport direction in which the transportable member is transported from the container portion to the transport path to enlarge a container area in the container portion for receiving the transportable member; and a second enlargement portion disposed at the receiving portion, the second enlargement portion moving in the opposite direction in conjunction with a movement of the first enlargement portion in the opposite direction to enlarge a container area in the receiving portion for receiving the transportable member.

Reading device, image forming apparatus, and method

A reading device includes a first light source, a second light source, a first reading unit, a second reading unit, a comparison unit, and a correction unit. The first source irradiates an object to be read, with first light having a first transmittance to the object. The second source irradiates the object with second light having a second transmittance to the object. The first reading unit reads the first light from the object to output first image data. The second reading unit reads the second light from the object to output second image data. The comparison unit compares a data difference between the first and second image data. In a case where the data difference is equal to or larger than a threshold, the correction unit corrects data of an image area having the data difference equal to or larger than the threshold in the first or second image data.
