A system and method for determining where to send a document from information printed on the document includes a scanner configured to scan a document, and a processor configured to use optical character recognition on the scanned document to determine recipient contact information. The processor generates a user-selectable list of one or more of the determined recipients and receives a user selection of one or more recipients to receive the document. The processor then transmits the document to the selected recipients using a modality suitable to the recipient's contact information, which includes faxing the document to the recipient when the recipient's contact information is a fax number, emailing the document to the recipient when the recipient's contact information is an email address, and transmitting the document when the recipient is a network file server.

An ASIC includes: a communication circuit that communicates with a control circuit; a multi-level, fixed-length compression circuit that performs fixed-length compression on scanner-generated image data to output multi-level, fixed-length compressed image data; a tone processing circuit that performs tone processing on the scanner-generated image data to output reduced-level image data; a first selection circuit that selects one of the multi-level, fixed-length compressed image data and the reduced-level image data, as first selected image data to be transmitted by the communication circuit to the control circuit; a multi-level, fixed-length decompression circuit that performs fixed-length decompression on image data received by the communication circuit from the control circuit, to output fixed-length decompressed image data; and a second selection circuit that selects one of the fixed-length decompressed image data and the image data received by the communication circuit, as second selected image data to be output to the plotter.

In accordance with an authenticated user designating a destination linked to self as a transmission destination, the transmission destination is set, and a transmission setting including the set transmission destination is registered together with first information indicating that the transmission destination was designated by designation of the destination linked to self. Also, in a case where another user is authenticated, and in accordance with a read instruction for the registered transmission setting, the transmission setting that is the target of the read instruction was registered together with the first information, as a transmission destination of the transmission setting a destination linked to the another user, who performed the read instruction, is set.

An image forming apparatus includes an image reader unit that reads a document so as to generate image data, a storage unit that stores a user name and an address associated with the user name, a control unit that performs a character recognition process on the image data so as to obtain text data from the image data, recognizes a word included in the text data, and sets the address associated with the user name matching the recognized word to a destination, and a communication unit that transmits the image data to the destination set by the control unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a processor configured to form an image, transmit the image to a server that generates a processed image of the image by executing a designated image process on the image and is on an outside of a firewall, and, in a case where the image includes designation information designating the processed image to be transmitted to an instructed transmission destination via a fax line, request an alternative apparatus to fax-transmit the processed image to the transmission destination, the alternative apparatus being on an inside of the firewall together and having a fax function.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium stores a program that, when executed by a computer, causes the computer to perform an information processing method. Setting destination information which indicates a destination of fax transmission. Converting a first code into a second code indicating an instruction in a fax transmission function of an image forming apparatus when the destination information includes the first code. An image processing apparatus that accepts a designation of a transmission setting; converts, in accordance with the transmission setting, image data generated from an original of a plurality of pages by a scanner to one or more files; if a designation for converting one page of image data to one file is made by the transmission setting, controls a network interface to transmit a plurality of files of converted image data in parallel; and if a designation for converting a plurality of pages of image data included in the original to one file is made by the transmission setting, controls the network interface to transmit, for the plurality of pages worth of image data converted to the one file, a subsequent page of image data after transmission of a preceding page of image data ends.

Systems, methods, and instructions on non-transitory computer readable media for automatically sending images to designated recipients based on context selection criteria (e.g., one or more of location, content, or quality). The system includes a camera and a user interface to trigger the camera to capture an image. The method includes identifying context selection criteria, identifying designated recipients, receiving the image captured by the camera, determining image data for the captured image, comparing the determined image data to the identified context selection criteria to identify a match, and sending the captured image to the set of designated recipients responsive to the identified match.

An image processing apparatus includes a raw image obtaining unit, a combined image generating unit, and a stamp image composing unit. The raw image obtaining unit obtains N raw images for generating an N-up image. The combined image generating unit generates the combined image from the obtained raw images. The stamp image composing unit selects a stamp image adapted for a combined image generating condition from a plurality of stamp images having mutually different layouts of stamps to compose the selected stamp image on the combined image.
