An image reading apparatus acquires first control data regarding generation of first rectangular image data that includes a whole of a document area corresponding to a document within a reading area of read image data. The image reading apparatus acquires second control data regarding generation of second rectangular image data that does not include a background area not corresponding to the document within the reading area of the read image data and includes at least a part of the document area.

Example implementations relate to emulating 3D texture patterns in a printer system. One example implementation receives an image having a number of image pixels and selects from a plurality of digital substrates which each correspond to a physical substrate. Each digital substrate has luminance change data corresponding to heights of a 3D texture pattern at respective locations of the physical substrate. An image having emulated 3D texture is generated by adjusting the luminance of the image pixels corresponding to respective locations of the physical substrate and according to the corresponding luminance change data.

A reading device, an image forming apparatus, and a method of correction. The reading device includes a scanner configured to read an image in a first wavelength range and an image in a second wavelength range from light reflected by a surface of a recording medium, a detector configured to detect a change from a reference position in a reading-depth direction when the surface of the recording medium is read by the scanner, based on an amount of characteristic read from the image in the second wavelength range, and a corrector configured to correct the image in the first wavelength range based on the change detected by the detector. The image forming apparatus includes the reading device, and an image forming device configured to form an image corrected by the corrector of the reading device on a recording medium. The method includes reading the image in the first wavelength.

A system and method of processing of a captured image to facilitate post-processing modification. The method includes: receiving the captured image; down-sampling the captured image to generate a down-sampled image; passing the captured image through an image processing pipeline to generate an initial output image, the image processing pipeline including performing one or more image processing operations on the passed image based on a set of parameters; iteratively passing, in one or more iterations, the down-sampled image through the image processing pipeline to generate an output down-sampled image in each iteration, each iteration using at least one variation to the set of parameters used by the image processing pipeline. Down-sampling can be used to generate a down-sampled initial output image such that a mapping is determined between the down-sampled initial output image and the respective output down-sampled image. The down-sampled images or the mapping can be stored as metadata.

A visibility adjusting unit (22) displays on the display device (15a) a user interface to specify a visibility level, detects with the input device (15b) a user operation performed to the user interface such that the user operating specifies a visibility level, determines the visibility level based on the detected user operation, and converts the determined visibility level to a resolution in accordance with a predetermined conversion rule. The scan control unit (21) specifies to the image scanning unit (11) the resolution obtained in the conversion performed by the visibility adjusting unit (22) and causes the image scanning unit (11) to generate image data of the document image, and converts the generated image data to image data of a specified data type.

An image forming apparatus includes circuitry that binarizes image data, a memory, and a print engine unit that forms an image of the binarized image data. When the image data is low in resolution, the circuitry has the image data stored in the memory and thereafter performs on the image data, detection processing for detecting whether or not the image data includes a predetermined pattern before binarization processing. When the image data is high in resolution, the circuitry binarizes the image data, thereafter has the image data stored in the memory, thereafter further performs multivalue converting processing on the image data, and thereafter performs detection processing.

A method and apparatus are provided for changing scan settings to verify the size of a scanned document. The method includes displaying on a user interface of the apparatus, a size of the scanned document, scanned based on one or more scan settings. The method further includes receiving a user response relating to the size of the scanned document. The user response is indicative of whether the size of the scanned document is according to a target size. The apparatus provides at least one of color information or resolution information to at least one of a device associated with the user or the user interface, when the size of scanned document is greater than the target size. The user changes one of color and resolution settings. The method includes scanning the document with one of changed color or resolution settings to obtain the scanned document with the target size.

A system and method for printing large files from a memory constrained mobile device analyzes image files to determine whether decompressing them for display or printing would result in image data exceeding device capacity. If not, the image data is displayed on the device and sent to a printer. If so, metadata in the image files is altered such that image data is generated at a lower resolution before decompression for displaying and printing.

The first image data is converted into the second image data defined by a color space that depends on an output apparatus that outputs image data. Additional information is multiplexed on the converted second image data by using a multiplex parameter.
