IMAGE READING APPARATUS, IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS, IMAGE READING METHOD, AND COMPUTER READABLE NON-TRANSITORY STORAGE MEDIUM
An image reading apparatus includes a front-side reader, which includes a white LED configured to irradiate an original with light and a CMOS sensor configured to receive light that is reflected by the original. The front-side reader is configured to generate read data that represents a luminance value of an image on the original from the result of receiving light with the CMOS sensor. The image reading apparatus stores, in a non-volatile memory, a condition for determining whether there is a sub-scanning color shift, and uses a sub-scanning color shift detector to determine whether there is a sub-scanning color shift based on the read data obtained from the front-side reader and the condition stored in the non-volatile memory. When there is a sub-scanning color shift, the image reading apparatus corrects the sub-scanning color shift by correcting the read data with a color shift corrector.

Image Reading Apparatus, Image Reading Method and Image Forming Apparatus Therefor, That Ensure Guiding Reflected Light from Document Having High-Gloss Level to Light Receiving Portion
An image reading apparatus reads an image on a document surface. The image reading apparatus includes a document-supporting unit, a light source, and an image reading unit. The document-supporting unit supports the document and transmits light. The light source, from a direction inclined with respect to a line perpendicular to the document surface, irradiates the document surface with an irradiation beam transmitted through the document-supporting unit. The image reading unit reads the image in accordance with light reflected from the document surface and thereby generates image data. The document-supporting unit enables varying degree that the irradiation beam scatters in passing through the document-supporting unit.

Image reading apparatus, image forming apparatus, and document size detection method
An image reading apparatus is provided with: a reading processing unit which moves a reading unit, causes a light emitting unit to emit a first amount of light, reads an electric charge generated by a photoelectric conversion unit, and reads an image of a document placed on a document placing surface on the basis of the read electric charge; and a detection processing unit which causes a light emitting unit to emit a second amount of light greater than the first amount of light, reads an electric charge generated by the photoelectric conversion unit, and detects the size of the document placed on the document placing surface on the basis of the read electric charge.
Image Reading Device, Method For The Same To Detect A Foreign Body On A Scanner Glass Platen, And Recording Medium
An image reading device includes: a scanner glass; photo-sensors arranged at intervals in a main scanning direction to read a document conveyed in a sub-scanning direction; an adjuster that adjusts the size of an overlapping area between a first and second image obtained by neighboring photo-sensors, the overlapping area constituting a first area of the first image and a second area of the second image; a superimposing portion that shifts either one of images of the first and second area to the other one; a judgment portion that judges whether the images having different focal depths exist based on the degree of matching between the first and second area; and a detector that detects a foreign body on the scanner glass platen by detecting a continuous image stretching in a document conveying direction in both of the images having different focal depths, if the images having different focal depths exist.
