The index processor generates an index color image that includes pixels obtained by expressing, using the index colors, the color information of the pixels determined to be expressible by the index colors. The line combiner combines pixels of which the color information is expressed in a same aspect in a plurality of lines to generate an RGB image region and an index color image region. The drawing processor performs a drawing process on each of the RGB image region and the index color image region to generate drawing information. The image forming device processes the drawing information.

A system and method for generating a mixed raster content representation of an input image. An input image is segmented into image and text layers. Connected component analysis is performed on the image layer, with each group of connected pixels labeled. For each group, an average color is determined and when a mask layer exists for the color, the pixels in the group are enabled in the mask layer. When a mask layer does not exist for the color, a new mask layer is created and the corresponding pixels enabled. The image layer is then removed and the mask layers are combined into the text layer, whereupon a text only MRC compression file is output.

The separation processor separates the image data into plural objects including a background object, detects, by using the foreign material position information, a streak image portion caused by foreign material in the read area and included in the image data, and assumes a pixel of the streak image portion to belong to the background object if the pixel is present in the background object and has a pixel value equal to or smaller than a threshold determined in accordance with a representative value of the background.
