An obtaining unit is configured to obtain a mixed spectral reflectance of a region in which a first color and a second color are mixed in an image including the first color and the second color, a plurality of first spectral reflectances of the first color, a plurality of first halftone dots associated with respective ones of the plurality of first spectral reflectances, a plurality of second spectral reflectances of the second color, and a plurality of second halftone dots associated with respective ones of the plurality of second spectral reflectances.

An image capturing unit captures an image including an embedded image that is printed on the basis of image data in which at least a color component has been modulated according to additional information. An adjustment unit adjusts a white balance of the image captured by the image capturing unit on the basis of an adjustment value associated with the embedded image. A processing unit processes image data of the image captured by the image capturing unit whose white balance has been adjusted by the adjustment unit to read the additional information in the image captured by the image capturing unit.
GREYSCALE IMAGES
In an example, a method includes, by one or more processors, acquiring a dot pattern having a distribution of dots. A greyscale image comprising a plurality of pixels each associated with a greyscale value may be derived from the dot pattern. Deriving the greyscale image may comprise, for each pixel, determining the closest dot to the pixel and associating a distance of the closest dot from the pixel with the pixel, and assigning a greyscale value to each pixel, wherein the greyscale value is based on the distance associated with that pixel.
GREYSCALE IMAGES
In an example, a method includes, by one or more processors, acquiring a dot pattern having a distribution of dots. A greyscale image comprising a plurality of pixels each associated with a greyscale value may be derived from the dot pattern. Deriving the greyscale image may comprise, for each pixel, determining the closest dot to the pixel and associating a distance of the closest dot from the pixel with the pixel, and assigning a greyscale value to each pixel, wherein the greyscale value is based on the distance associated with that pixel.
ARTIFACT COMPENSATION MECHANISM
A system is disclosed. The system includes at least one physical memory device to store compensation logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the compensation logic to generate first ink deposition function representing a first output ink amount versus input digital count for each of a plurality of color planes, generate second ink deposition function representing a second output ink amount versus input digital count for each of the plurality of color planes and generate transfer functions for each of the plurality of color planes based on the first ink deposition function and the second ink deposition function, wherein the transfer functions transform input digital counts.

A system is disclosed. The system includes at least one physical memory device to store compensation logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the compensation logic to generate first ink deposition function representing a first output ink amount versus input digital count for each of a plurality of color planes without pel forming element artifacts, generate second ink deposition function representing a second output ink amount versus input digital count for each of the plurality of color planes with the pel forming element artifacts and generate compensated halftones for each of the plurality of color planes based on the first ink deposition function and the second ink deposition function.

A pixel that is a target pixel being a processing target of a first multi-valuing unit is regarded as a first target pixel. A pixel that belongs to a pixel row adjacent to the pixel row to which the first target pixel belongs in the image data before conversion and is a target pixel being a processing target of a second multi-valuing unit is regarded as a second target pixel. A conversion unit converts the pixel array in the image data so that the first target pixel and the second target pixel are stored at serial addresses in a memory. An error diffusion processing unit performs multi-valuing by the first multi-valuing unit for the first target pixel in the image data after conversion and multi-valuing by the second multi-valuing unit for the second target pixel in the image data after conversion in a parallel manner.

A moire occurrence prediction means that predicts a region in which moire will occur and implements a moire suppression process only on a pattern including said region, thereby minimizing print deterioration, suppressing the occurrence of moire, and enabling high quality printing. The moire occurrence prediction means includes a communication unit for receiving an input image; a periodic structure inclusion determination unit for determining, in the input image; a periodic structure region that includes a periodic structure that induces occurrence of a moire; and a moire prediction unit for determining a risk of moire occurrence in each periodic structure region by performing a predetermined frequency analysis process with respect to each of the determined periodic structure regions, generating a moire occurrence notification that indicates the risk for each periodic structure region, and outputting the moire occurrence notification.
