The modulation clock generator is configured to generate the modulation clock by modulating a frequency of a reference clock at a predetermined modulation cycle. The line synchronization signal generator is configured to generate, on the basis of the modulation clock, a line synchronization signal whose line cycle varies from line to line. The line image sensor is configured to sequentially read an image of one line of a document at a timing corresponding to the line synchronization signal and to output image data. The image processor is configured to process the image data on the basis of the modulation clock.

There is provided an ink-deposition device suitable for depositing ink on a target surface and a printing system comprising the same. In operation in a printing system, the ink-deposition device can convert digital images into ink images on the target surface using pixel-masks and methods as disclosed herein. Advantageously, the ink-deposition device, the printing system comprising it and the methods of using the same can reduce or prevent the occurrence of some undesired ink-formations typically governed by the respective physical and/or chemical properties of the surface and ink being used or mitigate their effect on print quality. Application of the pixel-image mask yields a binary image that exhibits pixel-clusters with stochastically distributed centroids.

The image inspection device includes a hardware processor that: adjusts the original image data to reduce sharpness of the original image data; and detects the abnormality by comparing the adjusted original image data with the obtained imaged data. The hardware processor partly restricts the reduction of the sharpness.

The foreign matter detection units detect whether or not foreign matter has adhered to a lens based on the change over time in luminance values for each predetermined pixel of the image capturing element and the change over time in the difference between an evaluation value and a reference value. The controller outputs control commands to the other means to suppress the assessment of foreign matter as another vehicle when foreign matter has been detected.
