A method to provide secure delivery of a manifest file for use in playback of a video signal on a video player. The method includes establishing a connection with the video player, wherein the connection has a session identifier identifying the connection with the video player, receiving a request from the video player for the video signal, wherein the video signal is associated with the manifest file created for the video signal, customizing, using the session identifier identifying the connection with the video player, the manifest file created for the video player to provide a customized manifest file that is unique to the video player, the customized manifest file to be used in playback of the video signal on the video player, encrypting the customized manifest file using a manifest encryption key which is based on the session identifier identifying the connection with the video player, and transmitting the encrypted manifest file to the video player.

Bitrate selection for video streaming

A plurality of videos associated with a plurality of video resolutions may be received. A minimum bitrate may be identified for each of the video resolutions based on a first bitrate point associated with the videos where a quality of the videos at a first video resolution that is upscaled to a second video resolution is better than a quality of the videos at the second video resolution at bitrates below the first bitrate point. Furthermore, a maximum bitrate may be identified for each of the video resolutions based on a second bitrate point where the rate of change of the quality of the videos is below a threshold value. The identified minimum bitrates and the maximum bitrates may be assigned to the video resolutions.

A source device for transmitting content to a sink device is provided. The source device may include an interface configured to perform high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) authentication with the sink device, and a controller configured to determine an HDCP version supported by the sink device, convert the content so as to be encrypted in the HDCP version supported by the sink device in response to a determination that another HDCP version applied to the content is not supported by the sink device, encrypt the converted content in the HDCP version supported by the sink device, and control the interface to transmit the content to the sink device.

Signal security in a satellite signal distribution environment

Certain embodiments provide a set top box, comprising: a processing entity configured to obtain data for a channel stacking switch, to obtain a security data element and to formulate a message for the channel stacking switch by combining the security data element with the data; a communications interface configured to send the message to channel stacking switch. Other embodiments provide a channel stacking switch, comprising: a communication interface configured to receive a message from a set top box; a processing entity configured to determine whether or not the message is legitimate and to take an action that depends on whether or not the message is legitimate. Still further embodiments provide a satellite signal receiving system comprising a channel stacking switch and at least one set top box in secure communication with the channel stacking switch.

Encryption and decryption of media data

The embodiments herein relate to encryption and decryption of media data transmitted between an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and a ground controlling base, when recording and playing back the media data by combining symmetric and asymmetric cryptography.

SINGLE PASS PARALLEL ENCRYPTION METHOD AND APPARATUS

Apparatuses, methods and storage medium associated with single pass parallel encryption are disclosed herein. In embodiments, an apparatus for computing may comprise an encryption engine to encrypt a video stream. The encryption engine may comprise a plurality of encryption pipelines to respectively encrypt a plurality of video sub-streams partitioned from the video stream in parallel in a single pass as the video sub-streams are being generated. The plurality of encryption pipelines may use a corresponding plurality of multi-part encryption counters to encrypt the corresponding video sub-streams as the video sub-streams are being generated. Each of the multi-part encryption counters used by one of the encryption pipelines may comprise a sub-portion that remains constant while encoding the corresponding video sub-stream, but the sub-key is unique for the one encryption pipeline, and differs from corresponding sub-portions of the multi-part encryption counters used by the other encryption pipelines. Other embodiments may be disclosed or claimed.

Content protection

Devices, servers, systems and methods for content protection are provided. Disclosed embodiments improve temporal granularity of controlling access to the protected content and increase resilience against attacks attempting to prevent re-evaluation of conditions of access. Enforcement of re-evaluation may be based on the receipt and/or verification of tokens. In some embodiments, re-evaluation is enforced by periodically rendering content keys required for content decryption unuseable and/or clearing content keys already in use.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SUPPORTING MULTIPLE BROADCASTERS INDEPENDENTLY USING A SINGLE CONDITIONAL ACCESS SYSTEM

A method and apparatus for brokering the enablement of the communication of encrypted media programs from a plurality of independent broadcasters to a plurality of receivers is disclosed. The system makes use of a pairing key for each provided service, which is differently encrypted by a pairing server and by the broadcaster providing the service. The encrypted versions of the pairing key are decrypted in a first receiver module using information known to the pairing service but not the broadcaster and in a second receiver module using information known to the broadcaster. The pairing key is used to cryptographically bind the first and second receiver modules.
