An exemplary method includes a media service system providing a manifest file for use by a media player to perform adaptive bitrate switching in accordance with an adaptive bitrate streaming heuristic, the manifest file including data that associates a first media program provided by an on-demand media service with a first bitrate and a second media program provided by the on-demand media service with a second bitrate; directing the media player to present the first media program; detecting, while the first media program is being presented, a channel change command provided by the user; and directing, in response to the channel change command, the media player to switch from presenting the first media program to presenting the second media program by providing the media player with a command to use the manifest file to switch from the first bitrate to the second bitrate. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Enhanced video/still image correlation

A technique processes captured data on a device, wherein selected captured data of a given quality resolution is transferred via a communication link to a separate storage location for future availability. A storage protocol may include various storage organization categories. A possible aspect may provide an identifier record to enable future accessibility to selected captured data by one or more authorized parties or approved devices or authorized recipients. In some embodiments the captured data may include both a video data stream and one or more still image frames having different quality characteristics and/or formats. Initial and ongoing coordination as well as correlation may be facilitated between video and still image data derived from related fields of view.

Systems and methods for recording programs using a network recording device as supplemental storage

Systems and methods for recording programs using a user's equipment and a network recording device are provided. An interactive television application may determine whether the user's equipment has sufficient resources (e.g., tuners or space) to record a program selected for recording. If the interactive television application determines that the user's equipment does not have sufficient resources, the interactive television application may select, automatically or in response to a user instruction, the program for recording with a network recording device. In some embodiments, the user may have to pay for the use of the network recording device, or may be required to purchase a given tier level of service. The interactive television application may play back programs from the network recording device as VOD offerings, or may direct the network recording device to transfer recorded programs to the user's equipment when it has sufficient resources.

A method for storing video data according to one embodiment includes receiving a video signal comprising television programming, and converting the video signal to video data. Additionally, the method includes storing first temporal-based portions of the video data in files on a first storage device, storing second temporal-based portions of the video data in files on a second storage device, and creating reduced quality video data from the video data based on the first and/or second temporal-based portions of the video data. Further, the method includes outputting the first temporal-based portions of the video data and/or the second temporal-based portions of the video data, outputting the reduced quality video data to a first device via a network, and outputting the first temporal-based portions of the video data and/or the second temporal-based portions of the video data to a second device via the network.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INTERACTIVE PROGRAM GUIDES WITH PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDING FEATURES

Methods and systems that provide enhanced personal video recorder (PVR) and interactive television program guide (IPG) functionality are provided. An interactive television application (application) may be implemented to provide such functionality. The application may be used to display a list of PVR recordings, to schedule recordings to a PVR, to configure recordings, to view a list of scheduled recordings, to configure recording settings, or to select delete priority settings for recordings. The application may integrate pay-per-view and PVR functionality. The application may send user notifications for changes that are to be made to the recording content of a PVR. Live programming may be buffered by the application using a straight buffers that are created for each new program. Parallel buffers for concurrent programs may be implemented using multiple tuners. Straight buffers may be used in managing or controlling the flow of programming. Television content may be automatically paused when a user is engaged in using the application. Multiple IPGs for different users of a PVR may be implemented. Other PVR related features are also provided.

A dynamic image recording button and a still image recording button are provided at the main unit of a movie camera. A magneto-optical recording medium is loaded in a slot. If the dynamic image recording button or the still image recording button is operated during a reproduction operation, the reproduction operation is interrupted in a state in which the mechanical drive (rotation) of the magneto-optical recording medium is sustained. At this point, a dynamic image signal or a still image signal obtained through a photographing operation performed at the camera unit is temporarily recorded in a buffer memory, and is written in the magneto-optical recording medium when a write in the magneto-optical recording medium becomes enabled. Instructions to record dynamic images and to record still images can be issued to the movie camera through a touch-panel provided on the screen of a liquid crystal display unit. Even when operation cannot be performed through the touch-panel, the instructions can be issued through the dynamic image recording button or the still image recording button.

Automatic playback overshoot correction system
10062408 · 2018-08-28 · ·

An automatic playback overshoot correction system predicts the position in the program material where the user expects to be when the user stops the fast forward progression of the program material. The system determines the position where the program material was stopped and transitions to the new mode that the user selected, starting at the stopped position with an overshoot correction factor subtracted from it. The system uses a prediction method to correctly place the user within the program upon transition out of fast forward mode and determines if the speed of the fast forward mode and then automatically subtracts a time multiple to the frame where the transition was detected and positions the user at the correct frame. The time multiple is fine tuned if the user is consistently correcting after the fast forward mode stops.
