An image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present technology includes an optical modulator, an optical device, and a sensor unit. The optical device splits a modulated light beam modulated by the optical modulator into a first split light beam and a second split light beam, the first split light beam and the second split light beam each travelling in a different direction, and prevents a light beam, which backwardly travels on an optical path of the first split light beam and enters the optical device, from travelling along an optical path of the second split light beam. The sensor unit is disposed on the optical path of the second split light beam and detects a state of the second split light beam.

Relay systems

Relay systems may be incorporated into optical systems to direct light from at least one image source to a viewing volume. Light from a plurality of image sources may be directed by relay systems to a viewing volume. Some light from the plurality of image sources may be occluded by an occlusion system to reduce undesirable artifacts in when the relayed light from the plurality of image sources are observed in the viewing volume.

MIRROR DISPLAY WITH INCREASED BRIGHTNESS

A display system for a providing a three-dimensional effect with controlled reflections is disclosed. In one embodiment, the display system includes a display; and a beam splitter positioned between the display and the viewing location. The beam splitter transmits or reflects light based on a characteristic of the light. A physical prop is positioned between the beam splitter and the viewing location. The display is oriented to emit light toward the beam splitter and displays an image at least partially viewable in the viewing location through the beam splitter, such that the image is substantially un-attenuated by the bean splitter. Light reflected from the physical prop and further reflected by the beam splitter toward the viewing location is at least partially viewable in the viewing location. The display system is suitable to enable a substantially full brightness of the image to be viewable in the viewing location.

Lightfield displays for generating a 3D image comprise a 2D array of hogels. Each hogel comprises a 2D array of one or more pixels for generating light rays, and a light distribution control arrangement for controlling in 2D the angular distribution of the light rays from the array which are emitted by the hogel. The 2D array of each hogel is arranged to generate light rays which correspond to an elementary image assigned to the hogel, with each elementary image having a central axis which passes through a center of the image and extends perpendicular to the image. A plurality of the hogels have different lateral offsets between the light distribution control arrangement and the central axis of the respective elementary image.

This application discloses an interaction method performed by a display device and the display device. A three-dimensional virtual object may be obtained; an optical signal of the virtual object is transmitted to a first region of a space and then projected from the first region into a second region of the space through the display device, so that an image of the virtual object is generated in the second region of the space that is outside the display device; when it is detected that a user performs a motion sensing operation on the image of the virtual object in the second region of the space, the virtual object is updated based on the motion sensing operation, to obtain an updated virtual object; and an optical signal of the updated virtual object is then used for generating an image of the updated virtual object in the second region of the space.
