ADJUSTMENT OF DISPLAY ORIENTATION BASED ON CONTEXT AND LOCATION OF USER IN MULTI-USER ENVIRONMENT

In one aspect, a device includes at least one processor, a display accessible to the at least one processor, and storage accessible to the at least one processor. The storage includes instructions executable by the at least one processor to identify a context associated with a user, identify a location of the user, and adjust the orientation of the display to direct the display toward the location of the user based on the context associated with the user and the location of the user.

Surface features for imaging directional backlights

An imaging directional backlight apparatus includes a waveguide and light source array for providing large area directed illumination from localized light sources. The waveguide may include a stepped structure in which steps may include extraction features optically hidden to guided light, propagating in a forward direction. Returning light propagating in a backward direction may be refracted, diffracted, or reflected by the features to provide discrete illumination beams exiting from the top surface of the waveguide. Viewing windows are formed through imaging individual light sources and defines the relative positions of system elements and ray paths. Alignment of the waveguide to mechanical and optical components may be provided by surface relief features of the waveguide arranged in regions adjacent the input surface and intermediate the light emitting regions of the light sources. Efficient, uniform operation may be achieved with low cross talk for application to autostereoscopic and privacy modes of operation.

STEERABLE VIEWING SYSTEM

A steerable viewing system and an associated method of operation are disclosed. The system comprises a steerable filter for placing in front of a display area of a display device and a controller for causing the steerable filter to define one or more viewing passages extending through the steerable filter and permitting viewing of the display area from a first position through the steerable filter and one or more viewing barriers preventing viewing of the display area from a second position different from the first position through the steerable filter. The viewing passages are defined by LCD elements of the steerable filter in the transmissive state. The viewing barriers are defined by LCD elements of the steerable filter in the light-blocking state.

Intelligent privacy system, apparatus, and method thereof

A directional display apparatus including a directional display device that is capable of directing a displayed image into a viewing window of variable width is provided with a privacy control function. A control system detects the presence of one or more secondary viewers in addition to a primary viewer, and decides whether the one or more secondary viewers is permitted to view the displayed image. The control system directs a displayed image into a viewing window which is adjusted, for example by decreasing the width, in dependence on that detection. In addition, the control system detects relative movement between the primary viewer and the display device, and the width of the viewing window is increased in response to detection of said relative movement.

DISPLAY SYSTEM AND METHOD

The invention provides a display system which incorporates two display devices. A first is larger than a second, but with a lower resolution. The higher resolution second display is a directional display and it has its output area within the overall output area of the first display. This system integrates a general display for long range viewing by multiple people with a short range higher resolution display for interaction with one or a small number of users.

INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVICE, INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD, AND PROGRAM

[Object] To propose an information processing device, an information processing method, and a program which are capable of appropriately restricting viewing of content based on a result of sensing a real space. [Solution] An information processing device, including: a viewing restricting unit configured to restrict, on the basis of a predetermined condition, viewing of a part of content corresponding to a partial space of a real space among content of a free viewpoint generated based on a sensing result for the real space.

A projector includes a transmitter that transmits a signal, a receiver that receives a signal transmitted from another projector, and a control unit that achieves synchronization of the signals between the projector and the another projector based on the signal transmitted from the another projector and received by the receiver. The control unit includes a synchronization judgment portion that judges whether or not the projector is synchronized with the another projector, and a state judgment portion that judges whether or not the synchronization with the another projector is stable.

Multi-view display viewing zone layout and content assignment

Systems and methods are described for managing a multi-view display, including user interface techniques for manipulating viewing zone information and assigning content to viewing zones in the context of the viewing area. The multi-view display system may be calibrated to a coordinate system of the viewing area. The coordinate system can be based on the physical dimensions of the viewing area, a model or other representation of the viewing area, and/or characteristics detected by a sensing system observing the viewing area. A zone management device provide a user interface showing a representation of the viewing area along with representations of established viewing zones rendered in context within the viewing area. User interface elements allow a user to add, remove, manipulate, configure viewing zones, and/or assign content to viewing zones. User interface elements can also allow a user to manipulate the representation of the viewing area.
