There is provided an image processing apparatus which includes a division unit dividing an image into a plurality of images in a bit depth direction, and an encoding unit encoding respectively some or all of the plurality of images acquired by dividing the image in the bit depth direction by the division unit.

A computer-implemented method for storing and transmitting video files may include (i) encoding a video file at a group of different resolutions by (a) generating a group of base layers for the video file, each at a different resolution within the different resolutions and (b) generating an enhancement layer for the video file that, when combined with any base layer for the video file, increases the effective resolution of a resulting combined video file over a resolution of the base layer, (ii) receiving a request for the video file at a specified resolution, and (iii) providing the video file at the specified resolution by, in response to receiving the request, selecting an appropriate base layer from the base layers to combine with the enhancement layer to achieve the specified resolution. A probably update method used in context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) is disclosed. The probably update method for binary arithmetic decoding obtains an autocorrelation value of each bin by using values of received bins, determines at least one scaling factor used to update a probability of a binary value based on the autocorrelation value, and updates a probability used in context-based adaptive binary arithmetic decoding by using the determined at least one scaling factor.

A probably update method used in context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) is disclosed. The probably update method for binary arithmetic decoding obtains an autocorrelation value of each bin by using values of received bins, determines at least one scaling factor used to update a probability of a binary value based on the autocorrelation value, and updates a probability used in context-based adaptive binary arithmetic decoding by using the determined at least one scaling factor.

An apparatus configured to code video information comprises a memory unit and a processor in communication with the memory unit. The memory unit is configured to store video information associated with a reference layer (RL) and an enhancement layer (EL). The EL comprises an EL video unit and the RL comprises an RL video unit corresponding to the EL video unit. The processor is configured to perform upsampling and bit-depth conversion on pixel information of the RL video unit in a single combined process to determine predicted pixel information of the EL video unit, and determine the EL video unit using the predicted pixel information.

An apparatus configured to code video information comprises a memory unit and a processor in communication with the memory unit. The memory unit is configured to store video information associated with a reference layer (RL) and an enhancement layer (EL). The EL comprises an EL video unit and the RL comprises an RL video unit corresponding to the EL video unit. The processor is configured to perform upsampling and bit-depth conversion on pixel information of the RL video unit in a single combined process to determine predicted pixel information of the EL video unit, and determine the EL video unit using the predicted pixel information.

For each image in a set of images, a representation of the image at a first level of quality is derived using a first representation of the image at a second, higher level of quality and is output for processing by a decoder. Configuration data is output for processing by the decoder to enable the decoder to detect whether or not the first representation of a given image in the set of images is to be reconstructed using residual data for the given image, the residual data: (i) being useable to reconstruct the first representation using a second representation of the image at the second level of quality, the second representation being based on the representation of the image at the first level of quality, and (ii) being derived based on the first representation and the second representation.

According to the present invention, an image decoding method for supporting a plurality of layers includes the steps of: receiving and parsing layer-dependent information for reference layers that can be referenced by a current layer in an entire bitstream; when interlayer prediction is used in decoding a current picture in the current layer, receiving and parsing layer information for a reference layer referenced by the current picture among the reference layers; and decoding the current picture on the basis of the layer information.

According to the present invention, an image decoding method for supporting a plurality of layers includes the steps of: receiving and parsing layer-dependent information for reference layers that can be referenced by a current layer in an entire bitstream; when interlayer prediction is used in decoding a current picture in the current layer, receiving and parsing layer information for a reference layer referenced by the current picture among the reference layers; and decoding the current picture on the basis of the layer information.
