SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR THE APPLICATION OF ADAPTIVE VIDEO WATERMARKS
20230230192 · 2023-07-20 · ·

Systems and methods are provided for decoding watermarks in video frames. A media device may receive a video frame that includes a first predetermined region comprising a watermark and a second predetermined region having pixel values selected to reduce the perceptibility of the first predetermined region. The media device may detect the watermark in the first predetermined region of the video frame and identify one or more contiguous subsets of pixels that correspond to a first pixel value and one or more contiguous subsets of pixels that correspond to a second pixel value. The media device then assigns a first symbol to the one or more contiguous subsets of pixels that correspond to the first pixel value and second symbol the one or more contiguous subsets of pixels that correspond to the second pixel value. The media device then generates a first sequence of symbols from the assigned symbols.

Systems and methods to improve timestamp transition resolution

Example apparatus to improve timestamp transition resolution of watermarks are disclosed. A disclosed example apparatus is to decode timestamps in respective ones of detected watermarks, estimate a first transition window indicative of a transition between a first time period to a second time period based on a first one of the timestamps and a second one of the timestamps, and when the first transition window does not satisfy a threshold, estimate a second transition window indicative of a transition between the second time period and a third time period based on the second one of the timestamps and a third one of the timestamps. The disclosed example apparatus is also to determine a first mapped transition window based on an intersection of the first transition window and the second transition window, and set the first mapped transition window as a reference time transition window for subsequent time periods.

Systems, apparatus, and methods to improve watermark detection in acoustic environments

Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture to improve watermark detection in acoustic environments are disclosed. An example apparatus includes at least one memory, instructions in the apparatus, and processor circuitry to execute and/or instantiate the instructions to encode a first symbol in a media file at a first symbol position on a first encoding layer of a multilayered watermark, and encode a second symbol in the media file at a second symbol position on a second encoding layer of the multilayered watermark, the first encoding layer and the second encoding layer including a plurality of symbol positions, one or more of the plurality of the symbol positions on at least one of the first encoding layer or the second encoding layer to be empty.

Unified transform type signaling and transform type dependent transform coefficient level coding

A picture in a data stream is subdivided into different size transform blocks. For a transform block, a transformation is selected by checking whether the block's size exceeds a threshold. If it does, a default technique is used to select the transformation. If it does not, a transformation is used from a list of transformations as identified by an index, the list including an identity transformation and non-identity transformations. A coefficients block in the data stream is decoded, and if the selected transformation is the identity transformation, then the coefficients block is used as a residual sample array, and if the selected transformation is not the identity transformation, the coefficients block is subjected to an inverse transformation corresponding to the selected transformation to obtain a residual sample array used to correct a prediction for the transform block.

System and method of data transfer in-band in video via optically encoded images

Data are encoded into one or more optically encoded images. The optically encoded images are then inserted as image data into a video sequence—i.e., in video frames. Data are transmitted in-band within the video, via any conceivable video distribution channel or format. The video may be trans-coded as required—because the data are optically encoded, any video processing that even crudely preserves the frame images will preserve the optically encoded data. This scheme of in-band data transfer in video is very robust. A video receiving apparatus receives the video, inspects the image data from video frames in memory, detects optically encoded images in the image data, and decodes the optically encoded images to recover the data. The frames carrying optically encoded images are typically discarded and not rendered to a display. The data from a plurality of optically encoded images may be concatenated, and further processed.

Examples described herein relate to decoding and encoding signals. Certain examples described herein encapsulate custom data that is not signal data within a stream of encoded signal data. The custom data may comprise a wide variety of metadata that annotates the signal data, or provides additional information relating to the signal data. Certain examples described herein encapsulate custom data within a set of transformed coefficient values that represent data derived from a transform operation that forms part of the signal encoding. The encapsulation is may be performed by applying a bit shift operation to coefficient bits representing the set of transformed coefficient values.

Anti-piracy video transmission and display

Methods and systems described herein generate content that quickly cycles between different-colored frames at a rapid rate that may be imperceptible to human viewers. The human eye tends to blend nearby frames together, so that a human viewer will see a full color spectrum even though only a single color is displayed at any given time. The video display may repeatedly cycle between individual color frames, thus providing video content that appears normal to a human viewer. However, a video recording device may capture only some of the color frames. Therefore, the video recorded by video recording devices may include undesirable color flicker or other color artifacts, which may deter unauthorized copying.
