Providing promotion channel

A real-time customized promotion channel may be provided according to at least one attribute of digital contents displayed on a user device. Such a user device may include a communication circuit configured to receive channel service information from the server, an Input/Output (I/O) circuit configured to reproduce digital contents and output the reproduced digital contents to a display, and a controller configured to determine a promotion channel related to at least one attribute of the digital contents and request the determined promotion channel to the server. The communication circuit may be configured to receive the requested promotion channel from the server, and the I/O circuit is configured to reproduce the promotion channel and output the reproduced promotion channel through the display after the outputted digital contents ends.

Key event trick-play operation

Systems and methods are presented herein for generating at least one preview of a portion of a content item, wherein the at least one preview is selectable and, when selected, enables a user to change to a playback position of the at least one preview. An input corresponding to a request to generate at least one preview of a portion of a content item is received. At least two key events corresponding to the portion of the content item is identified. In response to identifying the at least two key events, at least one interactive thumbnail corresponding to the at least two key events is generated, wherein the icon corresponds to a preview of the portion of the content item.

Apparatus, method, and graphical user interface for an alternative advert (AA) system are disclosed. At an electronic device interfacing with an input device and a display, which may be integral or separate, the display is caused to display a first graphical user interface. The first graphical user interface includes a plurality of selectable alternative advert (AA) query items, a first graphical user interface element for accepting an offer to watch advert-free content, and a second graphical user interface element for rejecting the offer to watch advert-free content. In response to detecting, utilizing the input device, a selection of the first graphical user interface element by a viewer, it is determined whether the viewer has signed in. In response to determining that the viewer has not signed in, the display is caused to display a second graphical user interface. The second graphical user interface includes graphical user interface elements for the viewer to sign-in or sign-up.

SUBTITLE RENDERING BASED ON THE READING PACE
20220414132 · 2022-12-29 ·

Systems and methods for summarizing captions, configuring playback speed, and rewriting the caption file for a media asset are disclosed. The system determines whether to display the original captions or a summarized version of the captions, which are based on user's language proficiency level, reading pace, and historical data, and can be generated either on-demand or automatically when rewinds and pauses are detected. The caption file which includes the original captions can be rewritten. The system determines whether to stream a caption or a rewritten file to a media device based on user or system selections. In the absence of a caption file, or when the caption file cannot be summarized, the playback speed of the media asset is slowed down to provide additional reading time to the user.

Targeting content based on location

Assets of broadcast network content are targeted to network users of interest based on location information regarding user equipment devices. Asset providers can specify location targeting criteria via a graphical user interface displaying mapping information. This location targeting criteria can then be compared to location information regarding user equipment devices so that assets are delivered to appropriate devices. The comparison of the location targeting criteria to the device location information can be performed at the user equipment devices or at another location. In the latter case, the assets can be addressed to appropriate user equipment devices or appropriate user equipment devices can be directed to select the asset, which is broadcast via the network. In this manner, assets can be targeted to individual network users on a basis independent of network topology.

Measuring video-asset viewing

A computer-implemented method of using channel tuning data from a video asset viewing device connected to a network to measure video asset viewing at a second-by-second level during one or more user defined lead-in periods, and then correlating that with video asset viewing during a user defined target period, for the purpose of analyzing how viewing activity during the lead-in period(s) correlates with viewing activity during the target period, thus producing longitudinal viewing metrics; all while maintaining viewer anonymity. Additionally, viewing metrics can be categorized based on user defined demographic, geographic, and histogram groupings representing the percentage of video asset viewing with the result that the analyst is able to gain detailed insight into customer viewing behavior. The lead-in video asset may be any video asset or assets. The target may be any subsequent video asset. The metrics produced are useful to service providers, advertisers, and content producers.
