System and method for conditional access in an in-home network based on multi-network communication

One or more circuits for use in a transceiver that is collocated with a satellite dish, may receive a satellite signal carrying media content, and remove content protection from the received media content. After removing the first content protection, the one or more circuits may apply second content protection to the media content. The content protection applied by the one or more circuits may adhere to a different protocol, utilize different keys, and/or otherwise be distinguishable from the content protection that was removed. After applying the content protection, the one or more circuits may transmit the media content onto one or more links between the satellite dish and one or more client devices. The removal of the content protection may comprise descrambling and/or decrypting the media content. The application of the content protection may comprise scrambling and/or encrypting the media content.

Hybrid storage of program recordings in a service provider network

A method of managing, by a service provider, a program stored within a service provider network. Multiple multimedia devices are in communication with the service provider network. In accordance with one embodiment, a method for managing, by a service provider, a program stored within a service provider network includes determining a first number of subscriptions for the program. If the first number of subscriptions is less than a first threshold, at least a portion of the program is transmitted to at least a first multimedia device having a subscription for the program and the program is removed from the service provider network.

Methods and systems for recommending communications configurations

Methods, systems and devices are provided for placeshifting data. An exemplary method of placeshifting a media program from a first device to a second device involves receiving, by a server on a network, from the second device, a request for a placeshifting session over the network with the first device, identifying, by the server, recommended communications configuration information for the placeshifting session, and providing, by the server, the recommended communications configuration information to one of the second device and the first device in response to the request.

Personal content server apparatus and methods

Personal content server apparatus and associated methods that allow a user (e.g., cable or satellite network subscriber) to access content, such as a video program, from a location outside the subscriber's network. In one embodiment, a personal content server streams the content to the subscriber over a network connection from the local e.g., (subscription) network to a remote network upon authorization by a content manager process. Various access, business or operational rules are applied depending on the content and delivery mode; e.g., to live video broadcast, video-on-demand (VOD), or archived content from the subscriber's digital video recorder (DVR) or networked PVR. In another variant, reservation information (for example program or asset ID information) is cached at a headend or hub server, thereby obviating the subscriber (or the network) having to access the subscriber's premises device. In yet another variant, a “virtual” CPE experience is provided for the remote user.

A computer system for determining TV viewership information for one or more TV panelists is provided, the computer system having memory to store programs and one or more processors for executing the one or more programs. The programs include instructions for: receiving TV broadcast information from a TV metering device, wherein the TV broadcast information identifies a current status of a TV in a household and an associated timestamp; receiving TV panelist status information from a first login/logout device that is different from the TV metering device, wherein the TV panelist status information identifies a viewership status of the TV panelist and an associated timestamp; and correlating the TV broadcast information with the TV panelist status information in accordance with their respective timestamps to determine a relationship between the TV panelist and a respective TV program currently broadcasted by the TV in the household.

System and method for creating and managing individual users for personalized television and blended media services

There is provided a method of allowing members of a television viewing household to create individual user profiles using a plurality of input devices, the method comprising: determining the context of a user enrollment session; using the context to adapt a user enrollment to minimize operations required to complete an enrollment of the user; and generating a user hierarchy based on relationships between a plurality of user profiles according to a relationship with a television distributor and relationships between the plurality of user profiles. There is also provided a method of allowing television (TV) distributor administrators to manage user profiles and user settings, the method comprising: enabling creation of at least one administrative user; enabling the at least one administrative user to perform at least one of managing, creating, and viewing user profiles created for TV viewing households according to an administrative level assigned to the at least one administrative user; and enabling the at least one administrative user to configure settings related to an enrollment of a user.

AUTONOMOUS LOAD BALANCING AMONG DVRS OF NEW AND FUTURE CONTENT
20170264925 · 2017-09-14 ·

A technique for load balancing between first and second DVRs includes receiving a customer-generated signal to enable load balancing of to-be-recorded content at a future time between at least first and second digital video recorders (DVRs). Responsive to the signal and based at least in part on a storage size of at least one content, a load balancing algorithm is executed to determine which of the first DVR or the second DVR to record content at the future time.

AUTOMATIC MSO-BASED TRANSFER OF DVR CONTENT TO NEW LOCATION OF CUSTOMER
20170264926 · 2017-09-14 ·

A technique for transferring content on a customer's DVR to a new location to which the customer has moved includes accessing information including content and/or identification of content recorded on a first digital video recorder (DVR) located at a first customer facility, and loading the content and/or identification of content on a second DVR at a facility associated with a multiple systems operator (MSO). The second DVR is delivered to the customer at a second customer facility.
