USER CONFIGURABLE SPECTRAL LOADING IN AN OPTICAL LINE SYSTEM, USING POLICIES AND PARAMETERS
Disclosed herein are methods and systems for generating and/or obtaining at least one loading policy for a transmission line segment that is currently operating, the at least one loading policy comprising a combination of loading parameters for one or more types of loading management operations associated with the transmission line segment. At least one of the loading policies may be activated on a network element of the transmission line segment. Upon receiving a loading request to change a spectral loading pattern of the transmission line segment, current loading data of the transmission line segment and loading parameters from the activated loading policy may be obtained and used to generate a loading response. A signal containing the loading response may be sent to the network element, the signal configured to cause the network element to change the spectral loading pattern of the transmission line segment based on the loading response.

The first optical signal can include a first digital signal modulated onto a first light signal of a first wavelength, the second optical signal can include a second light signal can include a second wavelength different from the first wavelength, and the fourth optical signal can include the first digital signal modulated onto the second light signal. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Routing and regenerator planning in a carrier's core reconfigurable optical network
A multi-layer network planning system can determine a set of regenerator sites (“RSs”) that have been found to cover all paths among a set of nodes of an optical layer of a multi-layer network and can determine a set of candidate RSs in the optical layer for use by the links between a set of nodes of an upper layer, wherein each RS can be selected as a candidate RS for the links. The system can determine a binary path matrix for the links between the set of nodes of the upper layer. The system can determine a min-cost matrix that includes a plurality of min-cost paths. The system can determine a best RS from the set of candidate RSs and can move the best RS from the set of candidate RSs into the set of RSs for the links. The system can then update the binary path matrix.
Technologies for assigning workloads to balance multiple resource allocation objectives
Technologies for allocating resources of managed nodes to workloads to balance multiple resource allocation objectives include an orchestrator server to receive resource allocation objective data indicative of multiple resource allocation objectives to be satisfied. The orchestrator server is additionally to determine an initial assignment of a set of workloads among the managed nodes and receive telemetry data from the managed nodes. The orchestrator server is further to determine, as a function of the telemetry data and the resource allocation objective data, an adjustment to the assignment of the workloads to increase an achievement of at least one of the resource allocation objectives without decreasing an achievement of another of the resource allocation objectives, and apply the adjustments to the assignments of the workloads among the managed nodes as the workloads are performed. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Protection of channel connections in an optical network
An optical end terminal in which protection switching is implemented by using (i) the optical data receiver thereof for detecting a path failure and (ii) the optical data transmitter thereof for signaling the detected path failure to the protection-switching circuit. In an example embodiment, the optical data receiver is configured to detect a path failure based on the presence of certain data-recovery errors. The optical data transmitter is operatively connected to the optical data receiver and configured to generate an in-band dither tone of a predetermined frequency in response to such failure detection. The protection-switching circuit is configured to (i) detect dither tones in the optical signals passing therethrough and (ii) connect the optical data receiver to the protection path instead of the working path in response to detecting the dither tone of the predetermined frequency.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING ROUTE FOR OCH SERVICE, AND STORAGE MEDIUM
The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for determining a route for an OCH service, and a storage medium. The OCH service route determination method includes: determining a spectral width required for an OCH service in an optical network; and successively determining at least one path in a route for the OCH service from a start network element of the OCH service to an end network element of the OCH service. A maximum available spectral width of each of the at least one path in the route is greater than or equal to the spectral width required for the OCH service.
Reconfigurable computing pods using optical networks
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including an apparatus for generating clusters of building blocks of compute nodes using an optical network. In one aspect, a method includes receiving request data specifying requested compute nodes for a computing workload. The request data specifies a target n-dimensional arrangement of the compute nodes. A selection is made, from a superpod that includes a set of building blocks that each include an m-dimensional arrangement of compute nodes, a subset of the building blocks that, when combined, match the target n-dimensional arrangement specified by the request data. The set of building blocks are connected to an optical network that includes one or more optical circuit switches. A workload cluster of compute nodes that includes the subset of the building blocks is generated. The generating includes configuring, for each dimension of the workload cluster, respective routing data for the one or more optical circuit switches.
SYSTEMS AND METHOD FOR AUTOMATICALLY CONFIGURING PORTS IN BREAKOUT OR NON-BREAKOUT MODE
In one embodiment, systems and method for detecting the intent of a connected optics/cable to operate in either a breakout mode or a non-breakout mode are provided. When a optics/cable is used to connect a port of a spine node to ports of one or more leaf nodes, initially both the spine node and the leaf nodes may automatically configure themselves to operate in breakout mode depending on the optics. Later, the spine node and one or more more leaf nodes may exchange speed and optics information using a link layer discovery protocol or another protocol. If the exchanged speed and optics information indicates a mismatch, then the spine node or the leaf node may retain the breakout mode. If the exchanged speed and optic information do not indicate a mismatch, then the spine nodes and the leaf nodes may automatically re-configure themselves in non-breakout mode.

Reordering a list of restoration paths based on retuning penalties
Systems and methods for managing a list or restoration paths are provided. A method, according to one implementation, includes obtaining a list of restoration paths used for restoring transmission in a network when a home path between an originating node and a termination node is unavailable. The restoration paths are listed in a specific order based on ongoing transmission costs, where the ongoing transmission cost for each restoration path is based on characteristics associated with transmitting signals along the respective restoration path. The method also includes the step of reordering the restoration paths in the list based on restoration costs and the ongoing transmission costs. The restoration cost for each restoration path is based on a procedure for switching from the home path to the respective restoration path.
