The present application relates to a battery-powered electronic device, such as an electronic hearing protector, with switchable electrical contacts. The device includes a housing enclosing the battery and an electronics assembly. The electronics assembly is powered by the battery, and the electronics assembly comprises a processor controlled by updatable software. The device further includes a first electrical contact that is a ground line; a second electrical contact that is a data programming line in a first state, and that is a charging voltage line in a second state; and a third electrical contact that is a clock line in a first state, and that is a charge enable line in the second state. The first, second and third electrical contacts are accessible from outside the housing. A switch enclosed by the housing changes the second electrical contact between the first state and the second state.

Microphone placement

A device including a prosthesis configured with a sound capture system and configured to evoke a hearing percept based on a captured sound captured by the sound capture system, wherein at least a portion of the prosthesis is configured to attach to a head of a recipient such that sound is captured by the sound capture system externally of the recipient at a location below an ear canal of a human.

Directional audio selection

Various implementations include wearable audio devices and related methods for controlling such devices. In some particular implementations, a computer-implemented method of controlling a wearable audio device includes: receiving an initiation command to initiate a spatial audio mode; providing a plurality of audio choices corresponding with spatially delineated zones in an array defined relative to a physical position of the wearable audio device, in response to the initiation command, wherein each audio choice is associated with a prescribed action; receiving a selection command selecting one of the plurality of audio choices; and taking one of the prescribed actions in response to receiving the selection command.

An auditory prosthesis can be powered by an on-board battery that is placed into a receptacle in the auditory prosthesis. When longer battery life is desired, a recipient can selectively utilize a discrete power supply to power the auditory prosthesis. The discrete power supply provides power to the auditory prosthesis and, in certain embodiments, has a longer life than the on-board battery. The discrete power supply includes an adapter having a form factor that mates with the battery receptacle on the auditory prosthesis.
