In an embodiment a system for facilitating a subject's functional development includes sensing devices configured for sensing mind state signals; sensing devices configured for sensing body state signals; and a set of processing resources configured for generating a mind state indicator/measure, a body state indicator/measure, and a mind-body synergy indicator/measure that corresponds to an expected extent to which each of the subject's mind state and the subject's body state are cooperatively or synergistically aligned with respect to facilitating the subject's functional development. In an embodiment, the system can be configured for concurrently presenting a set of activities involving a model body part; engaging the subject in attempted imitation of the set of activities by way of attempted movement of a subject body part that is a mirror image of the model body part; presenting an indication of an expected extent to which each of the subject's mind state and body state are cooperative with respect to subject performance of the set of activities; and presenting an indication of an extent of subject relaxation. An associated multiple (e.g., up to 12) degree of freedom robotic orthosis can include a set of appendage motion modules configured for engaging with a portion of a subject appendage; a set of mechanical power interface modules coupled to the set of appendage motion modules and configured for facilitating movement of appendage motion modules within the set of appendage motion modules; and a set of flexible drive shafts couplable to the set of mechanical power interface modules.

WRIST AND FOREARM EXERCISE DEVICE
20200222755 · 2020-07-16 ·

A wrist and forearm exercise device includes first and second handle sections each having an elongated generally tubular shape. A central pin can be disposed between the handle sections to limit all movement other than independent radial movement of each handle section. A plurality of resistance members extend between the handle sections and are attached to posts that extend perpendicular to the major axis of the device. A pair of knobs are provided along the distal ends of the handles. The knobs function to permit exercise of the hands and forearms through ulnar and radial deviation of the wrists, whereas the handle sections permit exercise of the hands and forearms through flexion and extension movements of the wrists.

A multi-position stabilizing and strengthening apparatus for use in exercising different target joints is provided. The apparatus includes: a height-adjustable base and a first assembly including a track mounted to a portion of the base defining a movement pattern. The apparatus also includes a second assembly slidably mounted to the track to permit motion of the second assembly relative to the first assembly according to the movement pattern along the track and a third assembly including a tray sized to receive a portion of a limb and/or joint of a patient. The third assembly is rotatably mounted to the second assembly to permit relative in-plane rotational motion of the third assembly relative to the second assembly. The apparatus also includes a brace assembly fixedly mounted to the tray to receive portions of the patient's joint and/or limb, thereby securing the patient's joint and/or limb to the third assembly.

A wrist strengthening device includes a first handle, a second handle coupled to the first handle, and a tightening component coupled to the first handle and the second handle. The tightening component is configured to provide resistance to movement of the first handle and the second handle as the first handle is moved in a first direction and the second handle is moved in a second direction, opposite the first direction. The tightening component includes an outer piece, an inner piece, and a male and a female portion. Movement of the male portion toward the female portion causes space between the inner piece and the outer piece to decrease and friction therebetween to concurrently increase.
