Hybrid golf launch monitor

A golf launch monitor is configured to determine a flight characteristic of a golf ball. The golf launch monitor includes two low-speed cameras, a trigger device, and a processor. The trigger device is configured to detect a golf swing. The processor is configured to instruct, upon the trigger device detecting said golf swing, the first camera to capture the first ball image; instruct the second camera to capture the second ball image after a time interval, wherein the time interval is less than the first frame rate and the second frame rate; and determine, based at least in part on the first ball image and the second ball image, the flight characteristic of the golf ball.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for measuring and interpreting metrics of an athletic action and an object associated therewith

Embodiments provided herein measure metrics of an athletic action and an object associated therewith, and more particularly, to measuring the metrics and characteristics of a baseball during the wind-up, release, flight, and catch of a pitch sequence. Methods may include: receiving, from at least one motion sensor associated with an object, acceleration data and angular velocity data of the object in response to an athletic action performed on the object; processing the acceleration data to establish vector rotation data between a frame of reference of the object and an Earth frame of reference; applying the vector rotation data to the acceleration data to obtain acceleration of the object in the Earth frame of reference; applying the vector rotation data to the angular velocity data to obtain angular velocity of the object in the Earth frame of reference.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INTEGRATING PHYSICAL, MOVING TARGETS INTO A GAME, SPORT, OR OTHER ACTIVITY

The invention generally relates to a system and method for integrating physical, moving targets into a game, sport, or other activity, including the specific method of how to track the moving target and the interaction of one or more users as the target moves. The system and method for integrating physical, moving targets into a game, sport or other activity enables a plurality of users to simultaneously attempt to hit a moving target in the field of play with a moving object while tracking the moving target and moving object using a combination of sensors located on or around the field of play and on or around the moving target and/or moving object.

ROTATION STATE ESTIMATION DEVICE, METHOD AND PROGRAM

A technique that enables, even if a video image corresponding to one period is not obtained, estimating a rotational state of an object is provided. The rotational state estimation device includes: an object image generation unit 1 that generates object images, each of the object images being an image of an object, from an input video image; and a rotational state estimation unit 3 that estimates a rotational state of the object by selecting, from among a plurality of hypotheses of the rotational state, a hypothesis of the rotational state, a likelihood of an image of the object resulting from the object in the object image at a certain time being rotated for t.sub.c unit time based on the hypothesis of the rotational state being high, using the object image at a time t and the object image at a time t+t.sub.c where t.sub.c is a predetermined integer of no less than 1.

Immersive and reactive game play range, system and process

The invention generally relates to an immersive and reactive game play system and process having a dynamic, interactive range surface and/or an end-of-range display that provide for a partially simulated environment with a shared field of play for the activity that allows for an immersive but shared view of each user and the other users, and further expands participation by combining the advantages of simulated display with a physical field of play. The immersive and reactive game play system and process is configured to simultaneously display flight paths of multiple balls struck from a multi-level, multi-bay golf and entertainment facility. The interactive range surface provides a visual, auditory and/or physical effect to a golf ball traveling over or landing on the range surface, and the end-of-range display is configured to display the continued flight path of the golf ball.

System, method, and apparatus for providing an immersive experience for a sports or game simulation using a ball

A system for creating a virtual environment is disclosed. The system has a barrier screen configured to stop an object including a ball that is moved toward the barrier, including a first barrier screen portion that is a cylinder section, and a second barrier screen portion that is disposed above the first barrier screen portion, wherein the second barrier screen portion is an elliptical section. The system also has at least one projector configured to project an image of the virtual environment on the barrier screen, at least one sensor configured to sense data associated with the object, and a computing device configured to control the at least one projector to change the image based on the sensed data.
