MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS IN A CONNECTED ENVIRONMENT
20180213448 · 2018-07-26 ·

Switching the providing of a conversation among communication links is described. An electronic device can determine that a mobile device is being used to provide a conversation (e.g., a phone call) using a first communication link. The mobile device can enter an environment that includes a second communication link. The conversation can be switched to the second communication link that provides more content than the first communication link (e.g., audio and visual content rather than just audio content).

Communication apparatus, method of controlling the same, and communication system

To more appropriately maintain a wireless communication connection, a communication apparatus obtains an identifier of a first network connected, by a first wireless communication scheme, to another communication apparatus; searches for a second network by the first wireless communication scheme, which exists on the periphery, and obtains an identifier of the second network; and transmits, if the identifier of the first network and the identifier of the second network are different, a predetermined notification signal to the other communication apparatus via communication by a second wireless communication scheme with lower transmission power than the first wireless communication scheme.

Data flow mobility

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may communicate using a data flow that is defined according to flow identification information (FII). The WTRU may participate in the transfer of the data flow between access networks of diverse radio access technologies. The WTRU may communicate with a mobility function to obtain access network and mobility policy information. The mobility function may be, for example, an Access Network Discovery Function (ANDSF). The mobility policy information may describe the conditions by which the transfer of data flows between access networks may be permitted.

SWITCHING BETWEEN NETWORK MEDIA SEAMLESSLY WHILE MAINTAINING A NETWORK CONNECTION

The electronic devices described herein enhance a user experience associated with a network connection by transitioning between networks and/or network media. Determinations to switch from one network to another are based on connection quality factors which are collected and compared to defined connection quality thresholds. The connection quality factors are correlated to the quality of the connection, such that the quality of the connection is optimized by switching networks when the connection to one network is poor but the connection to an alternative network may be better. Further, the switching process between networks and/or network media, particularly between 802.11ad networks and other 802.11 networks, is enhanced such that it is substantially seamless, or unnoticeable to the user. The connection quality-based switching determination and the seamless switching between networks provide a consistent, high quality connection and a satisfying user experience.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DYNAMIC SPECTRUM ARBITRAGE
20180167824 · 2018-06-14 ·

Methods, devices, and systems of various embodiments involve dynamic spectrum arbitrage (DSA) to determine, in a first server, an amount of radio frequency (RF) spectrum resources available for delivery of advertisements. A first DSA-advertisement lease proposal may be sent to a telecommunications exchange. The first DSA-advertisement lease proposal indicates the amount of RF spectrum resources available for delivery of the advertisements. A lease confirmation message may be received, including an ad-information unit configured to deliver content of an advertisement within a designated geographic zone. Advertisement-lease parameters may be sent to a second server in the first communication network. The advertisement-lease parameters may include the ad-information unit and identify the designated geographic zone for delivery of the advertisement to user equipment (UE) situated therein. An ad-report message may be received from the second server reporting delivery of the advertisement to UEs within the designated geographic zone.

Media and communications in a connected environment

Facilitating a conversation using resources of devices within an environment is described. A user within an environment can be determined to be engaged in a conversation with another person via a mobile device. Characteristics of the environment can be determined and devices that can provide playback of content of the conversation or receive content of the conversation can be identified based on the characteristics of the environment. Playback of content and receiving of content can then be provided using the resources of the devices.

An apparatus for enabling transfer of mobile terminal inter-RAT capabilities in a multi-RAT environment from the perspective of the capability provider may include at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code may be configured, with the processor, to cause the apparatus to perform at least receiving an indication of a request for mobile terminal inter-RAT capability information relative to a particular RAT, acquiring the inter-RAT capability information in response to receipt of the indication of the request for inter-RAT capability information, and providing the inter-RAT capability information to a target base station.

A login management portion performs user authentication on the basis of a user ID and allows login of a user. A transfer control portion transmits, to a predetermined call transfer control device, a transfer setting request for causing a voice communication device to change an incoming call destination of a telephone number that corresponds to the user ID of the user whose login has been allowed. The login management portion prohibits, when a first user logs in, login of a second user different from the first user, and allows, when the voice communication device starts voice communication of the telephone number that corresponds to the user ID of the first user, login of the second user while prohibiting use of the voice communication device by the second user different from the first user.

Device and Method of Performing Codec Rate Adaptation in a Wireless Communication System

A communication device for performing a codec rate adaptation comprises a storage device for storing instructions and a processing circuit coupled to the storage device. The processing circuit is configured to execute the instructions stored in the storage device. The instructions comprise receiving a first bit rate recommendation from a first cell; selecting a first codec rate according to the first bit rate recommendation and encoding a first plurality of packets according to the first codec rate; receiving a handover command; performing a handover to the second cell in response to the handover command; transmitting a bit rate query to the second cell after the handover; receiving a second bit rate recommendation from the second cell; and selecting a second codec rate according to the second bit rate recommendation and encoding a second plurality of packets according to the second codec rate.

In some embodiments, a non-transitory processor-readable medium includes code to cause a processor to receive at a tunnel server, a data unit addressed to a communication device, and define, a first instance of the data unit and a second instance of the data unit. The first instance of the data unit is sent to the communication device via a first tunnel defined between at least the tunnel server and a first base station associated with a first network. The second instance of the data unit is sent to the communication device via a second tunnel defined between at least the tunnel server and a second base station associated with a second network. The second instance of the data unit is dropped by the communication device when the first instance of the data unit is received before the second instance of the data unit.
