A method for wireless communication includes that: a terminal reports at a first protocol layer a first event to a second protocol layer; the first event indicates that quality of a signal in a first signal set is bad enough to satisfy a first condition; determines at the second protocol layer occurrence of a second event when a number of times that the first event has successively occurred exceeds a threshold; and sends a first message to a network device, the first message indicates a signal in the second signal set, of which signal quality is good enough to satisfy a third condition; occurrence of the first event includes occurrence of beam failure instance, the occurrence of the second event includes occurrence of beam failure, and the second event indicates that link quality corresponding to the signal in the first signal set is bad enough to satisfy a second condition.

BEAM MANAGEMENT IN NON-TERRESTRIAL NETWORKS

A method can include determining an initial beam configuration by a controller at a satellite in a non-terrestrial network (NTN); applying the initial beam configuration to control an antenna array to transmit a beam to cover a target service area; determining subsequent beam configurations, by the controller, corresponding to a sequence of locations along an orbit of the satellite; and applying the subsequent beam configurations at each of the sequence of locations successively to control the antenna array to transmit respective beams to cover the target service area while the satellite is flying along the orbit. The controller determines the initial beam configuration and the subsequent beam configurations in a way that a variation of beam footprints of the beams is minimized to realize a constant beam footprint corresponding to the target service area.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for mobile routing for non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) systems using virtual routing areas (VRAs) are disclosed. A disclosed method comprises generating a plurality of routing graphs for each of a plurality of VRAs. Each of the routing graphs is for a different period of time, and comprises a gateway and satellites that are within view of each other and of the gateway during the period of time associated with the routing graph. The method further comprises generating at least one time-sliced graph for each of the routing graphs, where each of the time-sliced graphs shows connectivity between at least some of the satellites, which are on the routing graph associated with the time-sliced graph, with each other. Further, the method comprises, during each of the periods of the time, establishing communications between the satellites according to each of the time-sliced graphs for the period of time.

A communications base station is mounted on an aircraft such as a drone or a tethered balloon to provide wireless coverage over a remote area. The use of an airborne device allows a much wider coverage area to be served by one base station, and therefore one backhaul connection, than would be possible by ground based antennas. Power and maintenance savings are achieved as the aircraft is launched only when activity is detected on the ground in the area of coverage, and returns to a ground station when such activity ceases. Activity may be detected for example by sensors on a highway identifying vehicles approaching the coverage area.
