DIMPLE PATTERNS FOR GOLF BALLS
The present invention provides a method for arranging dimples on a golf ball surface in which the dimples are arranged in a pattern derived from at least one irregular domain generated from a regular or non-regular polyhedron. The method includes choosing control points of a polyhedron, generating an irregular domain based on those control points, packing the irregular domain with dimples, and tessellating the irregular domain to cover the surface of the golf ball. The control points include the center of a polyhedral face, a vertex of the polyhedron, a midpoint or other point on an edge of the polyhedron and others. The method ensures that the symmetry of the underlying polyhedron is preserved while minimizing or eliminating great circles due to parting lines.

Low dimple coverage and low drag golf ball
A golf ball has a lower drag than conventional golf balls due to the arrangement of dimples on the outer surface of the golf ball, which arrangement produces a correspondingly lower percentage of outer surface area that is covered by the dimples. In particular, dimple coverage area may be less than 70%, and more specifically between about 18.6% and about 60.8%, of the outer surface area. Various combinations of dimple characteristics can be combined to produce the low dimple coverage, low drag golf ball, such as the number of dimples, pattern and spacing of dimples, dimple diameter, dimple depth, and dimple shape. The dimple characteristics can be selected so that the golf ball meets the requirements of the United States Golf Association and other golf organizations.
Dimple patterns with surface texture for golf balls
The present invention provides a golf ball having an outer surface comprising a plurality of dimples covering greater than 70 percent of the outer surface, wherein at least 20 percent of the dimples incorporate directional surface texturing therein. The directional surface texturing preferably comprises substantially parallel channels or protrusions formed within the dimples.
GOLF BALLS HAVING MULTI-LAYERED FOAM CORES WITH STRUCTURAL INSERTS
Multi-layered, golf balls having a core made of a foamed composition are provided. The core preferably has a foam inner core (center) and surrounding thermoset or thermoplastic outer core layer. The core also includes a structural insert such as, for example, a solid shell, perforated shell, a lattice or mesh, or a central hub with extending arms, and the like. The core layers have different hardness gradients and specific gravity values. The ball further includes a cover having at least one layer. By adjusting the respective specific gravity values of the core layers, the Moment of Inertia (MOI) of the ball can be increased or decreased. In one embodiment, the ball has generally good flight distance and low spin rate.

DIMPLE PATTERNS FOR GOLF BALLS
The present disclosure provides a dimple pattern having two different domains with two different shapes. Each of the domains have unique characteristics with respect to positioning of dimples along an interior and/or perimeter of the respective domains. Additionally, the number of dimple diameters among the domains have a specific set of relationships. In another aspect, the dimples are arranged within each domain according to a respective series of reference shapes, such as triangles and quadrilaterals.
