A voltage-regulating drive circuit for an LED luminaire is disclosed. The drive circuit includes one or several series of LED light engines. A voltage source with a regulator is connected to the series of LED light engines to forward-bias the light engines. The circuit also includes a driver integrated circuit, which may drive the series of LED light engines using, e.g., pulse-width modulation (PWM). The circuit also includes a feedback circuit connected to the cathode end of the series of LED light engines. The feedback circuit receives a remainder voltage and creates a feedback output signal that upregulates or downregulates the regulator of the voltage source to keep a minimum operating voltage on the driver integrated circuit and to compensate for variations in forward voltages among LED light engines in the series.

A direct, plug-in replacement assembly for the halogen bulb used in existing lighting instruments that are employed in motion picture, video and stage productions. The assembly is self-contained and powered from the same socket as the original bulb. The assembly is designed to fit into the existing lighting instrument without any modification of that instrument. The assembly incorporates an LED array along with an electronic and mechanical system for thermal management. Standard phase-control AC dimmers are fully compatible with the assembly.

CURRENT TUNEBACK IN LIGHT EMITTING DIODE LUMINAIRES
20170359876 · 2017-12-14 ·

Safety improvements to Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are discussed herein. As the LEDs that are part of a luminaire heat up and cool down, the current supplied will be tuned to improve the safety of the luminaire to manage the levels of light and heat produced. At least one thermally active electrical component is incorporated into the LED load of the luminaire, which is communicated to an LED current control to signal when to adjust current levels providing by a driving circuit. Current is reduced when the temperature of the LED load exceeds a threshold, and or returned to an optimal current when the temperature no longer exceeds the threshold.

Self-healing overtemp circuits in LED lighting systems

A self-healing overtemp circuit is described and illustrated comprising a temperature sensing circuit, a voltage sensing circuit, and optionally, a current sensing circuit. The self-healing overtemp circuit is designed to ramp down power in an LED lighting system (or other electrical circuit) in response to a sensed or impending thermal runaway (and optionally, overcurrent) event. Said thermal runaway and overcurrent events may be a result of failure of one or more components (e.g., driver, active cooling means) of the lighting system. The self-healing overtemp circuit further comprises means of restoring power to said LEDs in a manner that avoids (i) a perceivably bright flash of light or (ii) increased risk of component failure.
