A putter club head having a radial face to impact a golf ball above the equator of the golf ball. The club head having a recessed area formed in a front surface for receipt of an insert that can be either shaped by a 10.0 inch radius, or employ an insert constructed and arranged to form the 10.0 inch radius. The insert has a frontal surface that works in combination with a recessed area to cause an immediate golf ball roll upon impact. The radial impact face insert is releasably secured to the recessed area of the putter club head, allowing ease of substitution. The radial impact face insert can vary in materials of construction, wherein a golfer can employ the insert to accommodate various golfing conditions while maintaining a single putter club.

PUTTER-TYPE GOLF CLUB HEAD

A putter-type golf club head has a top portion, a bottom portion, a heel portion, a toe portion, and a striking face having a variably textured region. The variably textured region includes a central portion and an outer portion laterally spaced from the central portion towards one of the heel portion and the toe portion. The central portion has a material ratio of less than 20% at a cutoff height of 0.1 mm and the outer portion has a material ratio greater than that of the central portion at the cutoff height of 0.1 mm. Variation of the textured region provides consistent ball speed upon impact at different lateral positions of the striking face.

The golf club head also includes a first filler material at least partially filling the interior cavity, and a second filler material at least partially filling the face cavity. Disclosed herein is a casting cluster for casting a body of a golf club head made of titanium or a titanium alloy. The casting cluster comprises a receptor and a plurality of runners coupled to the receptor and configured to receive molten metal from the receptor. The casting cluster also includes at least twenty-eight main gates. At least two of the main gates are coupled to each of the runners and each main gate is configured to receive molten metal from a corresponding one of the plurality of runners. The casting cluster further comprises at least twenty-eight molds. Each mold of the at least twenty-eight molds is configured to receive molten metal from a corresponding one of the main gates and to cast a body of a golf club head that has a volume of at least 100 cm.sup.3.

A method and an apparatus for playing golf on a hard surface comprises a replaceable striking pad attached to a conventional golf club head by means of at least one attachment means, a spiked ball, a portable ball trap to trap the spiked ball and an optional remotely controlled vehicle to position the portable ball trap. The replaceable striking pad includes a small lip at a bottom end on a front face and a holding ledge having substantially curved edges extending away from the bottom end of the front face. The holding ledge is adaptable to wrap around a bottom sole of the golf club head. The portable ball trap includes a thin flat platform with tapered edges, a central threaded pole positioned on the thin flat platform and a circular frame having a plurality of hinged tabs threaded to the central threaded pole.

Method of relieving stress from face plate welds of a golf club head

The present disclosure relates to methods for forming a golf club head assembly comprising a golf club head body and a high strength faceplate. The high strength faceplate can be heat treated. After welding the faceplate to the club head body, vibrational waves can be used to relive stress in the weld heat affected zones of the golf club body and faceplate.

In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion having a sole portion with a set of weight ports. Each weight port may have a first section and a second section. Each weight portion from a first set of weight portions may be adhered to the first section of a corresponding weight port by epoxy. Each weight portion from a second set of weight portions may be fastened to the second section of a corresponding weight port. At least a portion of the weight portions of the first set of weight portions may be interchangeable. At least a portion of the weight portions of the second set of weight portions may interchangeable. Other examples may be described and claimed.

MIXED MATERIAL GOLF CLUB HEAD

A golf club head includes a metallic front body coupled with a rear body to define a substantially hollow structure. The metallic front body includes a strike face and a surrounding frame that extends rearward from a perimeter of the strike face. The rear body includes a crown member and a sole member coupled to the crown member. The sole member comprises a structural layer formed from a filled thermoplastic material and a fiber reinforced composite resilient layer bonded to an external surface of the structural layer. The structural layer includes a plurality of stiffening members extending from a forward portion to a rear peripheral portion of the sole member. The resilient layer can comprise a uniform thickness. The structural layer and the resilient layer each include a common thermoplastic resin component, and are directly bonded to each other without an intermediate adhesive.

A wood-style golf club head includes a strike face and a body that cooperate to define a hollow internal club head volume. The strike face formed from a strike plate having an outer perimeter and a frame surrounding the strike plate. The strike plate is affixed to the frame across the entire outer perimeter. The strike plate and frame define a continuous ball striking surface that has a surface texture characteristic of milling that extends continuously across both the strike plate and the frame.
