The peripheral region at least partially surrounds the hitting region such that the hitting region and the peripheral region define therebetween a visually-recognizable hitting region boundary line including a sole-proximate boundary line segment such that when the club head is oriented in a reference position relative to a virtual ground plane, and in a virtual vertical plane perpendicular to the hitting region and passing through the face center, the sole-proximate boundary line segment is vertically spaced above the leading edge by a distance D1 that is no less than 2.5 mm.

A ball striking device, such as a golf club head, has a face with a striking surface configured for striking a ball and a channel extending across a portion of the sole. The channel may be recessed from adjacent surfaces of the sole and have a depth of recession from the adjacent surfaces of the sole. A pair of ribs are positioned within the channel. The ribs may diverge away from one another and may have a first rib located in a toe portion of the channel and a second rib located in the heel portion of the channel.

In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion having a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a hosel portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, and an interior cavity having a first recessed portion having a center portion of the interior cavity including a maximum width of the interior cavity, and a second recessed portion at least partially surrounding the first recessed portion and located proximate to a perimeter portion of the body portion. A first filler material is in the first recessed portion, and a second filler material is in the second recessed portion. The first filler material and at least a portion of the second filler material engage an inner surface of the back wall portion. At least one physical property of the first filler material is different from at least one physical property of the second filler material. Golf club heads include a golf club head body, a ball striking face, and a shaft engaging member configured to engage a golf club shaft with the golf club head body. The golf club head may be configured with a first piece and a second piece, which may be in the form of the shaft engaging member and a body member connected to the shaft engaging member. The shaft engaging member includes a base member and an arm extending from the base member, and the body member includes a face having a striking surface configured for striking a ball and a club head body positioned behind the face, the second piece having a receiving slot positioned behind the face, where the base member of the first piece is at least partially received within the receiving slot.

The golf club head also includes a first mass portion coupled to the body portion and a second mass portion coupled to the hosel portion. The first mass portion and the second mass portion comprise a material having a third density. A port on the body portion is configured to receive the first mass portion. At least a portion of the first mass portion is below a horizontal midplane of the body portion. The first density is greater than the second density. The third density is greater than the first density. A distance between a portion of the first mass portion and the hosel portion is substantially greater than a distance between the portion of the first mass portion and the toe portion edge. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion having a face portion including a front surface, a back surface, a plurality of front grooves on the front surface, a face perimeter, and a back groove portion on the back surface. The back groove portion may include a back groove portion length extending on the back surface of the face portion proximate to the face perimeter. A length adjustable golf club includes a club head attached to a shaft at a lower end. A length adjusting kit includes a shaft insert that attaches to the shaft at an upper end. The shaft insert includes a coupling port that accepts one of an extension block or a grip adapter. To provide length adjustments of the overall club length, one or more extension blocks may attached between the shaft insert and the grip adapter. A grip assembly having a reinforcing sleeve connects to the grip adapter and extends over the shaft and any extension blocks. The grip assembly couples to the shaft through a grip adapter and grip coupling. The grip adapter and grip coupling are axially moveable prior to securement with a retaining fastener. The grip coupling may be rotationally constrained or rotationally adjustable relative to the grip adapter.
